HL Mencken. The man, the legend, the self proclaimed drinker. He wrote some of the most biting and inspiring criticsim of the early 20th century.
Democracy is the theory that people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
HL Mencken.
To be able to whip off with those sorts of lines for a month, that would be a fine vacation.

What is a literature professor sitting at home to do but answer every question he can about his field.
Genre is a term used to catergorize texts (books, movies, comics, games) according to similarities in subject matter, form, and technique.
Noir fiction, crime fiction, and detective fiction are all sub genres of Mystery.
Fantasty can be broken into Sword and Sorcer, historic, epic, and fairy tale.
Comedy is a genre, as is action, drama, thriller, and even ‘children.’

Foreshadowing: Prepares an audience for things to come by use of objects and conversations.
Best example of Foreshadowing is in Macbeth, the Weird Sisters chant and give prophetic messages that later occur.
Almost any movie or detective story uses some degree of foreshadowing. Essentially any plot device that shows up early and then shows up again later is foreshadowing.

This would be more of a metaphor, because it is an analogy that identifies one object “she” with another object “movie star” and ascribes qualities from one to the other. A simile would make a comparison between two things that are unalike but have a resembleance in one aspect.
Also the word ‘like’ is commonly used to draw a comparison between things in similes but a simile is different than a comparison because the scope of the Tenor and Vehicle, being the subject and illustration are not overtly made.

I won’t go into all of the reasons that it DID begin. Including but not limited to States rights versus fedral rights, politics of the day, slavery, certain activities within the creation of the constitution and the ratification thereof. Because I don’t know that much about it, but I do know that Uncle Tom’s Cabin had very little to nothing to do with it and you should avoid any posts that say that it was influential as anything but propaganda of the day.
