• So, I’m thinking about quitting law school…I really could use some advice from any lawyers out there!
  

  Wow! I never expected a reply a whole year later!
  
  Unfortunately, I am still in law school…However, I have 100% made up my mind that I am never practicing law. I have applied/am applying to just about every federal agency for analyst-type positions. So far, the FBI and State Dept. have been pretty interested, but we’ll see. Strangely (or Awesome-ly?), they’ve been more interested in my chem and language background than my legal one! I don’t want to get my hopes up too high, but I feel like I’m finally excited about something.
  
  I promised myself that I would make myself actually study and sit for the bar - just to say that I am admitted somewhere - but after doing some real soul-searching, I’ve come to the conclusion that I will chase after every non-legal opportunity possible before I become an attorney. As for the loans, well…sh*t, I’ll figure out something. I’ve hustled before and I’ll hustle again. I made good money as a chemist and there’s always contract chem work to be had. If I have to work as an attorney, I’ll only work for as long as I can find something else or slip into some ****** grad program (hopefully on scholarship) and get a non-legal master’s. I will exhaust every avenue possible before I even contemplate doing any legal work whatsoever. I’ll work 2 jobs if I have to - I’ve done it before, I can do it again. The worst part about this is that people never believe me. That’s really disheartening, but whatever.
  
  I’m kinda in the same situation as last year as far as school goes, my mind has not changed one bit. But I find my current outlook to be a little more “liberating” or something. I’m desperately trying NOT to dwell on any “coulda, woulda, shoulda” thoughts. If I did, I think I’d have a no-sh*t nervous breakdown. So, on a good note, I’m about 124 days from putting this hellhole behind me!
  
  If you don’t mind me asking, what area do you practice in? BTW, I’m in NY, too.
  
  Thanks for replying, though. I sincerely hope that your situation gets better and that you get out of the field! (And yes, I agree - law school is hands down the worst decision I have made in my life.)

• How do I tell my parents I was denied from Harvard Law School and will have to settle for Columbia?
  

  uh…columbia law is not “settling”. people would kill for that kind of school. trust me, i’m in law school, too. i know plenty of people who’d commit acts of violence to get into those schools.

  how about:
  
  “seeing the ex behind my back is really hurting me, so i’d like to ask you to either introduce me to her or to please stop seeing her. it’s frustrating to know that you have lied to me even though i do trust you when you go out with her. i love you and i want us to both be able to trust each other and i don’t want to ever have to feel hurt or suspicious of you.”
  
  maybe you could write it out and put it in his car before he goes to see her? (or is that creepy?) you wouldn’t have to confront him then and he doesn’t really have to be “put on the spot” and ‘fess up in front of you. he could just stop going to see her or invite you along next time and pretend like it’s his idea…

  i agree. the person you are currently with is a greater priority. he needs to introduce you to this girl. tell him how upset it makes you feel, but don’t get too emotional about it. point out the fact that you have no other problems with his female friends and that you still trust him completely, but that you are feeling really hurt and this situation makes you feel insignificant.
  
  calm down, do a little yoga, meditate, whatever - before you talk to him and really think about what you’re going to say before you have a conversation with him. let him see that you are hurt, not just angry. (actually try to show the hurt more than the angry, i don’t think boys know what to do with angry girls…)
  
  you have every right to be upset, i don’t want to sound like i’m diminishing your anger. i’d be throwing crap around the room, too! but i don’t think it’s going to help matters.

  Thanks, Loredo. I know in my mind I will stay. I just feel like I’m wasting time doing something I hate with only possible benefits. I see you’re from Canada? Well, I’m sure you have heard what a dreadful time it is getting a job in the US if you’re a lawyer. We’re also quite the litigious bunch here in the States and that means grueling hours for the first five years of your career.
  
  I had an OK career before this, I just wanted something better. I thought I’d really enjoy it. I always enjoyed school before…
