  its annoying, and usually just a quick ‘no thanks’ stops them mid-spiel and puts an end to it. It’s a pretty rubbish job for them too, so no need to make their day any worse. I heard of someone once who said, ’sorry I can’t help you as I don’t have a phone’ which confused them enough to hang up!

  If you mean how to greet and assist a customer, well I think its good to acknowledge them when they come into your place of business - is it a shop? It depends on your business, but in a shop, most people like to browse without feeling under scrutiny or pressure to buy - that makes them uncomfortable and they will leave.
  
  Acknowledge, with a smile, or a ‘hello’ when they enter, then they know you are there if they need you. Only approach and ask if they need help, if they seem indecisive or confused.. but usually, if have acknowledged them already, they will feel comfortable about approaching you. There is nothing more off-putting to customers who like to browse than have someone hovering and watching every move. So give them space but be on hand if they need assistance.

  Oh God I really hope you sent this to them - So funny.. It would definitely add cheer to my day if my s.t. told me something ‘actually pertinent’.. like, wear the ballerina pumps instead of the docs today, or someone you know may lose their kneecaps.. or, quick go buy chocoloate, lots of chocolate, you know you’re gonna need it..;)

  –oh, and be kind to yourself. Most people are horrible to themselves in the privacy of their own heads, and this leads to all sorts of nastiness. Chill out and be nice to yourself - if you don’t, who will!

  I would add, be lighthearted and have fun! I would like to be able to look back on my life, and say yeah, I had a great time while I was here, and did everything I wanted to, I’m happy to go now..!
