  oh dear more of these posts. I do dispare sometimes at how these things are such porly represented. on both sides of god vs science, however i feel science gets the the worst misunderstanding. The problem is people dont understand what science is. Being as 99.9% of people have never been in volved in true science.
  
  Science and religioun are not opposites they are not mutually exclusive and they are completly unrelated and nothing like each other ….. sigh
  
  any way i digress, the problem is it dosent really matter what you belive. belive pigs fly for all that it matters. The more interesting question is why you belive it. Because from experiece the rational is usually terrible. I just do, or i know it to be true…. Is not an answer….
  
  see for my money all of you who have a hard and fast religion i would ask you this. Have you read other religions holy books, have you explored in as deep an entirity the other alternatives. Because the rational of one religon is the same as all others….. So those of you who are christian how do you know the other religions arnt true??? as all of your belifes are mirrored in other religons….
  
  
  Its a perplexing puzzle that you either have to be sceptical about all or lost in the choices…. after all jews muslims and christians all belive in the same GOD its the same person…. its not a muslim god…. its the same god. You all used to be the same religion you just whent down different paths following different interpretations and an interpretation is just that, some guys idea of the truth… so why is one any more right than any other. This to my mind is what religious people forget….. and there is know rational behind any one belif over any other…
  
  nor for my mind a rational for belife in one book of 200 year old oragin over any other book….
  
  I mean the ejiption gods are older and their books predate yours, but you would be hard pressed to find any that belive in them any more….

  ok well as a physicist i have never come across this so it might be a myth. But however i can give a physical reason why it might occur. The fact that the earth is gradually slowing would not make as drastic as effect as the one stated i.e. more than 11 seconds in a 3 months time frame. However it could be explained by this
  
  The earths axis has a slight wobble in it, now due to this wobble there would be a slight change in the angle with respect to the virtical. This would effect the angular velocity due to conservation of angular momentum. By how much i am unsure as i havent worked out the calculations. But the effect would happen over a shorter time frame than 100,000 years like that proposed by smoogie. Also it would come back to being faster again rather than continually slowing like that of the above idea. I am unsure of the time frame of these wobbles and their period so the difference might not be the same each year or even at the same times. actually reanalysing there is a seasonal effect that could come back at the same time each year.
  
  water is fluid and the side closest to the sun has more water due to the suns pull this would change the orientation of the mass and so the angualr frequency between the moths… A smaller effect than the above one but works on the same principle. Or tho it has the fact that it is reproducable every year on the time frame in question.
  
  So there you go hope this helps but this is two possible reasons why it might occur.

  challenges always motivated me, being able to push myself to understand. So teachers that stretched me helped. my sutiuation was kind of different as in my enviroment learning was a good and worth while thing (something to apire to). But i think challenging someone and then letting them feel they have sucseeded and now have grater understand over something that used to be a problem for them encourages and motivates them to sucseed. Alos insentives always work and help them ton get atarted and strive for the end small goals and steps are better than a long taget that takes forever to reach and then hopefully the sucsesses will inspire.

  the problem is not you beliving it its understanding it. Just as I would expect anyone who expresses an opinon about anything to have tried to understand it. I would not ever pass judgment on a religion with out first studying it and understanding it.
  
  You do not have to belive any of the scintific theories, in fact its best if you aproach everything with skeptisim. But scince as i said before is a method (like tying your shoes or washing your hair). Unless you try and understand what scince means your posiytion is some what flawed.
  
  Really what your trying to say is you dont belive the scientific theories….. thats fine you can not beilive them all you want. But science itself has no reteric and so can not be belived or not belived in.
  
  YOu personally can think and belive anything you like as that is your choise as a human. But if you have any interest in this area please learn the definintion of science and study what it does mean and what its possition is. Then you will understand what im talking about.

  I mean it just seems to me people dont understand what science is, as realistically they are opposite.
  
  Science never states it knows anything. The possition of science is that nothing can ever be proved only ever disproved. ITs a contant fluid state of what we think might be happening. This is why they are called theories not truths.
  
  Religion tell us this is the way things occured and this is the truth of the situation. It professes to know the answers which science doesnt.
  
  It just seems weird to me that we group these two opposites together. AS one comes up with a theory and says it is true, whilst the other observes what occurs and tries to explain it with ideas that constantly are checked and updated.

  well what you do is you define your plane wave inside free space and inside the barrier. you then have to link these waves so they are continuous across the boundaries. you do this by setting the wave equations and their derivatives equal at the boundaries. this gives you a set of equations that link the coefficents of transmission and reflection of the wave and how it behaves inside and outside the boundary.

  wow ok well there is the obvious reason why its transparent….. but your looking for a reason in mathematics
  
  well H[psi]=E[psi] is basically your schodinger wave equation. or you can see it as an eigen value equation where the hamiltonian acts on your states wave function to give the energy E.

  this question sounds very quantum mechanical in nature….. so let me think……
  
  well i guess you could see the galss as a square well and the wave function as a plane wave. then you could apply the boundary conditions of your square well on the plane wave…… and show that the visible energy spectrum has sufficently high energy to pass over the well…. that would show transmition……………
  
  but the problem of how to define the well potential and what is its magnitude…..
  
  
  thats how you could do it on a very complex quantum mechanical level……
