  Hey, you said “do you know people who’ve messed up in school and still turned out ok?” - who says he’s messing up?? There are some VERY successful people out there that dropped out of high school without online courses or anything. School is NOT for everyone! The classic example is Einstein failed his math classes. Some people just don’t learn in that kind of environment. That doesn’t mean those people are stupid or “screw-ups” - it just means they choose a different path than the normal population. There is nothing wrong with that. =)
  
  It’s not your fault for him failing interest in school. I live in America, and know that at least here, there’s a big problem with schools losing the interest of the students. I’ve had a huge struggle with it myself. I think the problem is that school is too confining. It takes the natural joy out of learning by forcing students to study subjects they don’t see the value in, and having to follow a strict curriculum that doesnt allow for passionate pursuit of subjects of interest. And then there’s a whole social aspect to deal with. I know a girl who became homeschooled because she couldnt stand dealing with some of her peers - she wasn’t bullied, she just hated being forced to stay around people she didnt like. She’s very intelligent and does research on academic subjects she’s interested in, even though she’s not required to.
  To be honest, there are some pretty valid reasons to not want to attend school. Maybe your some has a similar problem with school. That doesnt mean he has a dislike for education though.
  
  Sometimes success in school is made out to be “THE REST OF YOUR LIFE” — I know this pressure first hand. It’s not true. You said that he’s smart, creative, and has good friends. I’d say that’s pretty successful on his own! People need to do things their own way, and sometimes that doesnt involve the conventional path, but that doesn’t mean that those people aren’t successful and happy. Those are words that you define as an individual. Ultimately, as much as you can try to help him find it, it is your son who will find out what makes him happy/successful. School doesnt do that for everyone.
  
  I don’t disagree with you when you say “school is important” - but it’s important because school is supposed to educate. If you can find another way that educates your son just a well, there should be no problemo.
  
  What I would suggest is looking for a less conventional option to highschool. If online courses aren’t working out with him or don’t challenge him enough, maybe you could find a different provider for online courses. You could also look into the different types of schools in your area - sometimes it’s surprising to see what types of different, non-conventional schools are out there. If anything, at least get him to get something equal to a diploma (like GED) and see what else you need to do (like if he doesnt have the grades, community service looks good) to help him have a wide range of options for good colleges.
  
  Honestly though, I think he’ll be fine. He sounds like a really good kid, and I can tell you really care about him and support him, and I think that’s what matters most. And I’m not just saying that. =)

  As far as to answer your actual question, lol, I personally was regular like 3 months after I first got my period. Now, from the friends I’ve talked to, that seems to be very early. One of my friends has had hers for 3 or 4 years and she isnt regular at all - she went 6 months without a period! Her younger sister is about the same. Her doctor wasn’t too concerned, but said if it doesnt regulate soon-ish they might need to look into it - it could be the sign of a deeper problem.
  
  so basically, I guess theres a wide range of when it seems to regulate. Personally, I seem to remember something like it should be regulated in about a year. But I would check out some informational websites like I linked you to, to see what might be the issue.

• Periods and Boyfriends
  

  Hmm… I understand your predicament, as it’s a question I’ve wondered about before, although it hasn’t actually applied to my life. (Stupid lack of boyfriend… lol)
  
  I think, first off, the most important thing is that you respect his boundaries. you probably already know this, but it must be said that in relationships, especially the sexual part, boundaries need to be respected. You’d probably ask for the same respect for certain things that you truly find unappealing.
  
  That said, there are some ways I can think of to maybe get him to consensually agree to it.
  1) You could ask him to try it once - just give it a chance. If he still finds it as unappealing as before, then agree to never bother him about it again. (And a tip if you do this: Try to plan it so it happens like near the end of your period when it is very light, so it wont bother him as much).
  2) Tell him how much it means to you. Try to give him an example of what it would feel like from his point of view (Some girls really don’t like to swallow, but they’ll do it because it makes their man happy).
  3) Offer to experiment with something that you may be hesitant to do, in return for him trying. This does NOT mean that -either- of you should do something you’re TRULY UNCOMFORTABLE with. There is a difference between getting out of your comfort zone/trying something new VS don’t something you completely do not want to do.
  4) He might be more willing if he was using a toy instead of his hands.

  Thank you so much, what you said is very encouraging.
  Some things have have changed since I posted that, some good some bad. We did end up together for a short period, but he broke up with me for some complicated reasons (nothing that was wrong in our relationship), and we went back to being good friends. Part of the problem is that he had to move far away. I made a commitment to myself and him that I wouldn’t loose at least our friendship just because he had to move. I really do want to help him find the best in himself, and I’m not the type of person to let something else (circumstances) limit me.
  And it’s been working so far =) We’re considering a long distance relationship, but either way I’m still going to do my best to support him. It’s encouraging to hear your story because I’m trying to - exactly what you said she did - hold strong and long. Endurance. I’m sorry it fell apart for you, but I really appreciate you sharing your experience and advice. I’m going to try to be bold and honest.
