  Purely something that made me think one day whilst i was sitting on a beach…

  I agree that our effect upon the earth is not always beneficial, but i do have problems with the current ‘change light bulbs and save the earth’ mentality.
  
  We are led like sheep into higher taxation and greater curbs on our freedon by the constant need for the ‘powers that be’ to keep us afraid.
  
  We all blindly follow the latest news report and urban legend regardless of any basis in fact.
  
  Here are some actual facts… check the net.
  
  Resources;
  We need to stop using them so in efficiently, they are finite (cannot be replaced)
  We need to not only develop, but actually begin to use renewable sources of energy.
  
  We have consumed half of the known world reserves of oil and have recently (or will very shortly) reach a state known as ‘peak oil’ this is when the production of oil outstrips the discovery or tapping of fresh resources.
  At our current rate of use we have precisely 50 years of crude in stock, unfortunatly our rate of use is increasing…
  
  On the bright side (if you have a 10 litre yank tank) there are relatively untapped reserves of shale oil distributed around the globe (a vast ammount is deposited around alberta in canada and constitutes an oil field the size of saudi arabia)
  
  There are 11 times the number of cars on our roads as there where in 1980… but the cars (that a majority of us use) are over 100 x cleaner and more efficient.
  
  Still room for improvement.
  
  Global warming theory;
  everyone forgets the final word in the title… like a lot of science it is a theory, i.e. an unproven concept that requires greater indepth study before it can be described as fact.
  
  If human society has truly affected the global climate to the degree claimed then surely it would have more to do with the 1000+ atmospheric nuclear weapons tests conducted since the second world war. only a theory…
  
  In the 1970’s the latest thinking was that following a consistent drop in global temperatures in the previous decade we where about to enter a fresh ice age… sound familiar?
  
  How about this… a global mean temperature rise of 2 degrees detected over the last 30 years that indicate a world wide change of climate… sound familiar, its not really as it has been recorded on MARS. little green men in their 4×4’s?
  
  Have you seen how big the sun is!! if it farts we get cooked… it is a wonder the global temperature is even slightly stable…
  
  One last thing..
  The statement “since records began” check for your self not only what that means with regard to global temperature, but also be astounded at how sparse the records are beyond the 20th century… tree rings, anecdotes and Captain cook i think you’ll find.
  
  Don’t get me wrong on this i am all for saving the planet, just tell me exactly what it is i am going to save it from…
