K, I was the only chubby, smart, dorky, factory worker’s kid in a school full of beautiful, dumb, cool doctor’s kids. I just didn’t care what they thought of me. Make it about you. What you want, not what other people expect of you. Life is short. Live it!

wow, being a kid sucks. Hang in there. Rumors only hurt if you let them. You are only in school for you. Learn what you’re there to learn. If the social environment in your school is drving you nuts, find somewhere else to be socially active. Sports through the Y, music in your community, church, etc.. are all ways to meet kids from other schools. It sounds like a bunch of crap, I know, but try it. Give yourself a chance to meet people that don’t have an idea of you yet. That don’t have a chance to know the rumors. Maybe if your life outside of school is tolerable, the rest of it will be easier too.
Good luck! :)

You know, scrapping metal, inventing and marketing new products, extra jobs, selling avon, telemarketing, whatever… look for another part time gig. Money doesn’t fall from the sky, you have to work for it.

I always have said that they should teach basic home economics in school. We would all benefit from a 6 week course on how to manage our personal finances. Ok, I am a banker, and a mother of 3. Surprisingly, we make very little together, my husband and I. The only way we survive is by budgeting. First, you know what your bills are every month, and if you don’t, start there. Figure out what your bills are every month. Add up all the totals and divide that number by the amount of pay checks you get in a month. Let’s say you pay 1000 for rent, electric, gas, phone, insurance total and you get paid twice a month, or every other week - that’s 500 a week for bills. If you can’t afford the bills you have, then you need to figure that out at that point. There is always a way to cut back somewhere.
Now that you know what it costs to keep the roof over your head, you need to find out what’s left over. After you take your bills out of your pay, that’s what you have to live on. If saving is a priority to you, do it at this point. Say your bills take 500 every 2 weeks, and that leaves you with 250. Take a percentage of that money for saving, even if it’s 1 percent. Put it in cash in a jar and never take it out again. After that, budgeting for groceries, gas, bus, parking, etc… If there is anything left after that… you get more to save in your jar.
I use my account at the bank for extra help. I only put my bill in the bank, and leave the rest out. This avoids expenses like overdraft fees and extra fees charged by banks and utility companies.
I hope this helps you. If you need anymore financial advice, we can help. If you find that you are not currently living within your means, you need to get help from somewhere. Check with the department of human services in your area. They will have lists of places that can help.
Good luck and happy budgeting!
