  i am disturbed by the tone of your responses pompom. you seem to feel that terrorism is justified, or at least justifiable. it is not, in any circumstance. if i have somehow misunderstood you, go ahead and correct me. murdering innocent people is not how you defend a religion or point of view. if islam truly advocates violence towards innocent people, i would have no problem with the eradication of the religion as a whole. killing people over a cartoon exceeds all bounds of decency and common sense. the fact is, muslim nations have every tool available to them to advance themselves in the world. there are huge amounts of natural resources available to them (oil) that the entire world requires. with that influence alone, they should be able to promote their religion without violence.
  
  i find it absurd that the catholic church was and is criticized for spreading religion by the sword(crusades), but little criticism comes out for muslims who advocate the same. not only do extremists advocate violence, but violence against non-combatants.
  
  if this trend continues, i’ll advocate going back to the first testament, and take an eye for an eye. what if seventeen americans flew airplanes into buildings and murdered 3K muslims because muslims had killed americans? would it be justified? i say no. according to extremist muslim thought, it would just be waging war. reconsider your line of thinking, pompom. defending a religion doesn’t require wanton violence, especially against noncombatants.

  have you seen jon gruden call in his plays? they are extremely complicated. as far as the qb having the most complex job, yes that is true. but it’s not the only complexjob.
  
  it’s impossible to explain all the nuances of football, especially when you seem to think that a playbook makes things simple. it doesn’t, at all. playbooks aren’t just numbers and easily memorized, especially when you get into varsity, collegiate, and professional football. i only played at the varsity level. one play, which was simple, was SPREAD LARRY FLEX TIGHT RIP SEMINOLE RIGHT. translation? SPREAD=4WR, LARRY=TRIPS LEFT (3WR ON ONE SIDE OF THE FIELD), FLEX=SLOT RECEIVER LINES UP ON THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, TIGHT=3YARDS OFF THE TACKLE FOR THE SLOT RECEIVER, RIP=MOTION RIGHT, SEMINOLE=ROUTE PACKAGE, RIGHT=LINE BLOCKS TO THE RIGHT.
  
  so a mirror of the same play would be SPREAD ROGER FLEX TIGHT LOAD SEMINOLE LEFT.
  a variation would be SPREAD LARRY BUNCH TIGHT RIP SEMINOLE SMOKE RIGHT. on a play sheet that we have on our wrist bands, it has the word SEMINOLE 8364. 8364 is just a route tree, but on every variation a receiver runs a different route, if you don’t have a firm grasp of the offense, you run the wrong route (two players running a 3 or 4 route) and the qb throws where you should be instead of where you are, which usually means disaster. not to mention the quarterback has to know where everyone is going. this is a basic play in a basic offense, magnify by 100X and you have a collegiate playbook.

  btw, it doesn’t mean it’s better or easier, just more complicated. that’s why an entire week goes into preparing for a game.
  
  golf is insanely difficult to be good at. on its face, its a simple game. hit the ball to the hole. obviously there’s more to it.
  
  as far as baseball and football being a team game, of course nine people are needed to make outs. but eleven people are needed to make a play. in baseball each person relies on himself to make the play, nobody can really help. in football, a qb can do nothing without his line. a receiver can do nothing without his qb, and so on. not better, just more complex.

  football is much more complex. consider what it takes to complete a 10 yard out route. the quarterback has to read the defense. are they man-to-man, cover 2, or cover 3? he has to predict and/or recognize blitzes. if there is a blitz, he and the receiver both have to shorten the route without communication, just trust. the qb has to throw the ball as the receiver makes his break and throw it to the right spot, or the corner will intercept and score a touchdown.
  
  the receiver has to read the corner as well. cover 2? cover 3? press coverage or off coverage? is there a blitz on? he has to run his route crisply. if he rounds his route, the corner gets an angle at the ball and an interception returned for a touchdown.
  
  the offensive line has to block and account for blitzing linebackers, safeties, or occasionally corners. running backs also have to help in blitz pick-up.
  
  if one person screws up, the play fails. if one of five lineman misses a block, it’s a sack. if the qb or receiver misreads the coverage, bad pass that could be intercepted. a bad throw or a poorly run route usually means an interception.
  
  and this is all an extremely watered down description of a play. keep in mind most plays of this sort will have at least two other routes and probably some playaction. oh yeah, there are eleven guys on defense that have to read and react as well.

  probably the same reason we don’t use the metric system. we use the standard (how standard can it be when one country uses it?) to irritate the rest of the world.
  
  joking aside, football is very different from rugby. the padding makes the hits more violent, and the forward pass revolutionized the sport. i don’t think american football will catch on internationally, there are too many nuances and rules to understand. if you grew up with it, you would probably like it. i never watched a socc-sorry, “football” game in my life, have no comprehension of any rules, and hated my one attempt to watch the sport on tv. seeing as how millions of people worldwide love the sport, i’ll plead ignorant.
