I think if the only reason was his insecurity it must not be so hard to make him change his mind, just tell that you love him and don’t want nobody else and you believe it’s not worth giving up and it’s not impossible as he thinks, that there should be some solution.
If he’s determined about leaving you though, I’d be worried. Maybe ask him straight if he’s loyal to you and real reason he decided to break up is what he says.
