Don’t put your cursor ANYWHERE when you’re going to make a reply. Quote whatever you’re going to quote, then start typing … OR, start typing and THEN quote the remark you want to quote.
By the way, I noticed that several replies were removed from a post of Snar’s too. I don’t remember any red-flag replies there either, so maybe it was a banned user who had created a new account?
And thank you for not getting steamed at me. I know my shouts were strongly worded, but it’s because I care about you and don’t want you to be so frustrated.
Because I have been to both extremes, I watch and listen to commentary from partisan media outlets on both sides (except for Limbaugh who is just too nauseating even for me). Both sides, when given platforms where they can control the debate (Fox News, MSNBC, cons. talk radio and Air America for example) tend to be willfully ignorant of data or facts that run counter to their ideology. And when they are in relatively neutral media settings they yell at and insult each other. That’s not the way to solve problems.
Dems and Republicans are not the same. But saying that Dems are good and Repubs are evil is exactly the kind of vilification that Reagan used to marginalize his opponents. Yes there are evil Republicans, but there are also evil Democrats, and incumbents from both parties generally take dirty money from anyone to stay in power.
If you want to debate politics, please do. I want and value your opinions, but try not to insult people personally. I’m not even the opposition. I’m still voting for Obama. Don’t you think you can discuss issues without getting angry at those who disagree?
Of course I know I was “over the top” (horrors!). But I don’t believe that Republicans & Democrats are the same, and I don’t agree with behaving as if everyone is a reasonable human being because they just. are. not. This is a way bigger crisis than any one of us is even capable of comprehending. This IS a war between Good and Evil.
The insulting reply (the one where you stated that don’t respect others’ opinions and told them to use their brains) is in my post about liberals and conservatives, not the one you mentioned. I don’t think any of the removed replies were yours. I also don’t remember any rude remarks in that conversation.
I have no idea, I just logged in. Not sure who reported it, but I didn’t (I would have said something directly instead out of respect for our friendship).
I did think your reply was insulting to a lot of people. Florie if you didn’t just listen and watch one side of the political debate (the side you agree with) you wouldn’t be so quick to judge. For someone who holds up tolerance as an ideal, you don’t show much tolerance for views that disagree with your own.
And the idea that the Dems in Congress have been too collegial with the GOP? That’s absurd. It is precisely because the two parties have been so bitterly entrenched (and yes I know the Bush admin is the worst of it), vilifying of their opponents and at a stalemate, when so much needs to be done, that Congress’ approval rating is even lower than the dumbass in the White House. The middle in this country is fed up with bickering, name-calling and manipulation. I’m fed up with it myself. If you can’t have a civil conversation about politics, then you won’t win any votes for your candidate. How can you not see that?
Were a bunch of my replies removed from this post of yours? http://help.com/post/200368-i-have-re… I think maybe they were … OR, do you know whose were removed? I thought that was a drastic action that was rarely taken.
Now Woofie, settle down … I haven’t posted anything because I’ve had my head in the sand I tell you! I refuse to listen to any of the damn pundits, or even read anything because I don’t want to get in a panic about it. I’m pretending everything’s all right. I have to sleep at night. I can’t absorb anymore of this stuff. Every day, every hour there’s some new outrage. It’s really really crazy. It’s like a movie, and we’re stuck in it.
The next time you complain about people not caring enough to pay attention to politics I’m going to quote you your reply from my latest post. As you can see, my post only got a handful of replies (sound familiar?). I thought for sure you’d take a interest.
And don’t you think it strange no one has posted about this MASSIVE bail-out of Wall Street? Maybe if I put up a post called “If someone doesn’t rescue me I’m gonna cut!”
I watched it. I wished he would just get pissed off, though, and not pull his punches.. like you say, if something’s a lie then call it a lie. We all know he has the vision; I need to know he has the guts.
Here’s the thing, Florie, as someone who likes you and agrees with much of what you say.. you’re not debating issues, you’re calling people stupid. I live in the south where 95% of the people I know are to the right of me. Many of them are intelligent. Remember too that I have almost three decades as a member of the news media. Even here there is a bias to the left. I agree with much of the left, but not with showing bias. Sometimes it seems like you’re just looking for a heated argument.
It’s the Revenge of the Stupid People. Oh but wait, the people behind the scenes aren’t really “stupid.” But they use stupid people to attain their goals. It’s really horrible. Oh bull, nobody attacked her (enough)! She’s nobody, she’s nothing. It’s pathetic and a joke on womankind. It’s incredibly tacky – and incredibly dangerous!! It’s not something to be “reasonable” and “balanced” and “moderate” about. This is way out there!
Politics matters a great deal to me, but my days of being either a Dem or Repub are long gone. I have been at both ends of the spectrum (as you’ve heard me say before) and I see hypocrisy in both parties.
To the base of the GOP she is golden. Many of the arguments against her are the same as the arguments against Obama–based on ideology and experience. This choice would not have made much difference if it were just the base though. I think many in the middle have shifted to the right because of the way the media and blogosphere began attacking her (because the media loves drama and has 24 hours to fill) before she even spoke.
As for me, I wouldn’t say I’ve ever been solidly in the Obama camp, but I’m still planning to vote for him.
I know, nobody except Fizz wants to think about politics much. As if it really didn’t matter to their lives. Wrong. That’s why I’m leaving again. It’s a waste.
I’m not moving in until October-ish. I changed places, and it won’t be available till then. It’ll be okay. I can no longer afford a big enough place. I had a lucky deal. This time I have to pay the going rate. :(
Oh well. I’m really really bummed about Sarah. I’m in shock. I thought they couldn’t surprise me anymore, but they did. It’s just horrible. Everyone I know is completely flabbergasted that even they would make such a choice.
Politics has meaning, but to me it isn’t the world. I try to stay away from thinking of people like me as “us” and people who think differently from me as “them”. This is not the happening place for political discussion. Those topics tend to divide this community and sometimes people get their feelings hurt.
I know you feel dismissed when people disagree with your beliefs without giving reasoned arguments. If politics is really what turns your taps, you might find political forums more fun.
Yeah, I’ve been missing Max and a few others as well.
I haven’t been helping as much as I used to. Sometimes this is really a waste of time and a way to procrastinate. I try to help as best I can, but lately my sessions here have been pretty short. What I’ve like most about help.com is getting to know people like you. I’m not good at email correspondence.
As you may have noticed, I came back to make a few political posts, and have generally been in a snit and a panic at that thought that “they” could conceivably win.
There is nothing for me here. My two main political buds are pretty much gone (one for sure). I’ll only get into trouble.
