Thanks for spending the time to give some explanation about you, your position in relation to CNET and what you’re thinking. Seems everyones a mix of feelings and expression, which I think is to be expected. I think I might have confused you with the “will you be working on other projects for cnet” question, I was more interested in your active presence at help.com. Like with Scott, he had several projects he was working on and so, I didn’t notice his presence at all. I wanted you to be able to see that for yourself so you can get more of a feel for what the users or “helpers” here are like. Some of us are friendly, others are total jackasses, some are just confused and still upset. I’ve been at help for a little while and I’d like to think that I know some of the people, the regulars and the mods—I’m slightly concerned with the community.
Help is a community, and users constantly say and think they can and should control everything…they aren’t taking into consideration that YOU or the other admins WORK for cnet—or that CNET as a corporation has certain responsibilities to it’s own self preservation (country/state and international laws as well as company policies.) It’s the point I try and argue with the minors who are in heavy flow at help.com—while alternatively I’ll simply say, YOU signed the TOS don’t like it, leave—it’s a privately owned website, that’s open to the public to use.
We have a lot of in-fighting because people come from all over the world with their own set or ideals morals and religions. I’m pretty sure I’m hated by some. There are a lot of clicks, I think on the forum that’s due to the tagging—and how people get on certain circuits as a result. In a heated moment you can make a lot of friends and/or enemies. We’re all only human, people should get over themselves.
I’m worried, because I’ve seen three sets of moderators come and go.
This group that’s presently very active have been the ones who have done the most to try and keep the place running well, and I’d hate to see any of them go. I’m worried because I know that there will be a lot of changes happening—very quickly. I feel like you want people to feel a sense of normalcy for people to be happy and for the things people ask for to happen in the most effective and expedient way possible. A lot of mods don’t last long because they can’t handle the heat/pressure. I know the admins really wish they could tell us what they thought of us, we grate on them too. I hope that you can rely on the wisdom that the current mods, as a group, have to offer from their time keeping us sane and safe; and some of the tried and tested methods of democratic leadership that the previous administrative staff implemented to keep things relatively balanced and running smoothly.
As you adding support, moderator staff, there are going to be many people questioning your actions, and the mods as a collective, as it ALWAYS is.
Goodluck, Mr. U. I hope there will be many years of good use and programing here at help.com ahead.
Please, please, please make a post so that we can direct people who might be confused with the new changes to it, that way you only really have to say things ‘once’ and it will give all the frustrated users a place to understand and air their grievances, we’re still getting people trolling from consummate.
