It sounds like you might need something more like MS Access than Excel. With Access, you can make actual databases, which are alot more powerful than what you can do in Excel. You can have it run reports (which is what it sounds like you want to do) whereas Excel you can only really sort and filter.

2008-08-12 17:40:46 on Does anyone know any chat sites or chats that are aimed for people who live in certain areas ?
If you go to the City-Data Forums, they have specific boards for cities/states/regions. Not really “chat” but I have found the people there pretty helpful.

2008-08-08 20:26:33 on Where did the term “Go Bananas” come from?
According to www.englishdaily626.com, it comes from the fact that “when apes are given a bunch of bananas, they eat them with tremendous enthusiasm, as though they’ve lost their minds.”
I don’t know if this is true, but after reading this question, I was intrigued enough to Google it a little and found that etymology.
2008-08-05 19:14:07 on “what do you believe is true even though you cannot prove it?
I believe in other life, intelligent or not, being somewhere out there. I believe we and they evolved to best fit our respective environments and will continue evolving in the millennia to come. I believe in karma and that if I do what is right, the world can only be a better place for it and hence I will have a better life. I believe you can make anything of your life if you try hard enough and its not up to any gods or fate to make you happy or successful, only your strength of will.
2008-08-01 22:28:41 on Does anyone know any interesting temperature-related stories?
I went to school in a very cold area of the country. There were days where we had to go to class while the National Weather Service would advise people not to go outside because your skin would freeze with like 15min of exposure. There were the times you would think you hair was dry after showering, but it was still damp enough to freeze solid or your nostrils would freeze shut walking to class and you would have to breathe through your mouth the rest of the way, and then one day we heard about how if the temperature was low enough you could take a pan of boiling water and fling it out of the pan, watching it freeze solid before it ever hit the ground. One morning after one of the coldest nights of the year, we tried that. It happened just like that, after which we had to trudge to class, although after the freezing boiling water experiment, I just wanted to crawl back in my warm bed.
2008-08-01 22:15:32 on Well, im trying to buy a custom built computer, but
how about something to do with being able to research school papers and write reports and such. Also, building your own computer is a good learning experience, too.
2008-08-01 21:59:05 on What is some really good (and fast) torrent software?
Personally, I like Azureus. I tried some other software when I first started with BitTorrent, but I haven’t had any issues with Azureus, and I have gotten some very fast speeds on it. It really depends on your connection, how much you are uploading (the more you give, the more you get) and how many other people have what you want, though.
2008-02-22 15:15:45 on where can i find short biographies about famous dead people?
Wikipedia has most anyone who is remotely famous. Its a good starting point and the bibliography at the end of an article may direct you further.
2008-02-21 19:46:04 on Can I Love?
Nearly all of my close friends I met in college. I met them because we had classes together and worked on homework or projects together or we lived near each other in the dorms or we were in the same clubs or activities. Some of my best friends were actually friends of friends and when I think about it, I am amazed by the convuluded chain of events that led to our first meeting. My best advice is just to put yourself out there, be who you want to be, and get involved in whatever sounds interesting to you, because that is how you will find your true friends.
2008-02-21 19:32:47 on I’m curious of the general public’s view on gay culture and gay relationships?
My feeling is that people have the right to do anything they want as long as it doesn’t harm anyone who doesn’t want to be involved. That said, I think a deep loving relationship is the same regardless of sex or any other factor people have had a problem with in the past (mixed races, for example). I think it is illogical to discriminate based on something like that and in fact one of my best friends is gay as are several of my other friends. I find it offensive when someone says “That is so gay” or the like. I don’t think I am average in this regard, but it is getting better, especially in the Northeast where I grew up and went to school.
2008-02-21 19:14:28 on what would you like to see in a movie:
truthfully, I always enjoy the odd movie in which evil triumphs over good…mostly for the novelty, but also because in real life, sometimes that happens. While sometimes I need the uplifting hero riding off into the sunset with love interest after defeating the evil plan, I really appreciate the totally unexpected evil over good ending.
2008-02-21 19:04:03 on I need advice really badly!
I also wanted to add that since I going through some depression myself and am trying to figure stuff out, that it helps to try to find the root cause of your feelings. If you have felt this way for awhile, maybe it is beyond that, but if you want to try to do this without school, family, or friends help, just think to yourself if you could change anything in your life, what would you to make yourself happy…would anything do that? If they are big things, are there small things you can do to move towards those outcomes? Could your mom help you achieve these changes? Just a thought.
2008-02-21 18:56:04 on I need advice really badly!
I’m not sure if this is what you meant by not wanting to talk to anyone at school, but like my high school had a school psychologist that you could go see and it was totally confidential. That was 10 years ago, so maybe it has changed, but that is probably who I would have seen if I didn’t want to talk with my parents.
2008-02-21 18:48:18 on Depressed with current situation
Lonely is definitely part of it. My roommate and I get along fine and he has a couple friends that come around every so often but who live a ways away. He is actually from the west coast and knows very few people here. I admit I am pretty shy around people until I get to know them then I am pretty outgoing. I guess its more that I haven’t found anyone who is really on my wavelength so to speak (and I just think back to college when we had a very close knit group and there was always something going on). The few people I do know at work my age have like nothing in common with me.
Beyond being lonely, there is just on overall feeling like I will never be able to make it to where I would really like to live around here because it is so expensive. Being single is a big part of that, but I really hate Southern MD where I am now and don’t think I could take it not knowing when, if ever, I could move to a nicer area, more in tune with the city. I am curious, if anyone reading this is from San Francisco or one of the other places that went crazy in the housing boom, do they get discouraged or have a hopeless feeling on housing?
