  Should have noted, that is in Theravada Buddhism, as opposed to Mahayana or Zen which profess teh Buddha as a sort of Deity, though NOT in the same way as Christians revere God, but rather much more like the way that Shintos revere great Kami…

  There are alot of different religions in this world. But it can be broken into only two different groups. Those who belive in salvation by grace, (by forgiveness, it is a gift from god).   It’s not only Catholics, but even alot of baptists are trying to get to heaven by good deeds or by baptisim.   Just a few things I noticed that are incorrect. First, the sacrificial lamb, which was slaughtered at Passover was in no way representing the coming of Jesus. It was a remembrance of the final plague of Egypt, and a sort of ritual absolution (forgiveness of sins basically).
  
  As far as your note on salvation by grace or by works… I’ll be blunt, it is wholly false. Some religions, such as Shinto, have no goal of salvation, and many do not believe in anything close to the Christian concept of original sin. In Buddhism the goal is enlightenment and escape from the cycle of Samsara, with no opinion as to the existence of God at all.
  
  For the last bit… it’s not just the movements themselves being repeated that’s supposed to save the person… it also includes right action and livelihood, the ceremonies are intended as religious experiences as ways to grow closer to god.

  Nothing against him or anything, or against you, just keep in mind this is coming from a psychology student.
  
  Guys who would rape girls are sometimes good manipulators, and those are usually smart and charming. At your age, your brain will work against you in such a way that you are much more likely to act on impulse than on rational thought than you will be in as little as four years from now. It could relatively easily end up not being rape, or even not being sexual, but still being something that you end up regretting for one reason or another due to the difference in how people think about their actions at home compared to in public.
  
  Not that you should never go to his house, just get to know him a little better in public places apart from school before you go over to his place. One thing my parents always used to do to me was to require that they met my friends parents first, which now I look back, I think did help.

  Different parts also have to be read differently. Some parts are poetic prayers (like the book of Psalms) other parts are argued to be histories or symbolic stories (such as the book of Genesis), still other parts are narratives, with parables thrown in as part of them (like the gospels)
