  talk to him.
  no secrets.
  just calm and honest communication.
  
  you can’t control most things.
  but you can control how you handle this…
  your part, at least.
  
  your concerns are probably rejection…
  this is something you cannot control at all.
  so don’t fear it. fear creates the victim.
  
  accept yourself as acceptable.
  you are okay…knowing this will
  ease some of what you feel will be awkward.
  
  but when you do it, if he is mature at all,
  it will actually be EASIER than you think.
  and as long as you stay secure in yourself,
  it will ease his mind, too–regardless of the
  outcome.
  
  you will only lose, if it is discovered that
  you have not been honest.
  
  go for it–and if you fail–fail boldly.

  Woa,
  
  you don’t actually need your parents to be proud of you.
  you’ll discover that your self worth does not come from ANY
  outside person or judgement based on how “well” or “poor” you
  do…
  
  there should be no way for you to lose their “love, respect,
  admiration” (however you choose to label it). once you understand
  you’ve got it (and they have freely given it)–it will fall into
  place.
  
  now, if they’re just trying to push you to take a little more initiative
  in discovering who you are, what your purpose is, or getting you to contribute,
  that would be different. but getting them to be proud, is a bit tricky,
  because it’s a goal that has a dead end.
