  Yes, my aunt took a lot of medications but none of them seemed to help. We were all surprised at how rapidly her condition deteriorated (It’s been 5 years now). We took her to a number of doctors and none of them could help. At this point my aunt is just a shell of who she was, and she has lost some control over her physical body as well (she drools and has balance isssues). She still talks in single word or very short sentences when prodded, and she still recognizes us. But she doesn’t sleep through the night and needs help with showering, cleaning and feeding herself. I wish I could tell you that there was a solution to this, but there isn’t. You help care for your relatives because you love them and because they have no control over the disease that is taking hold of them, just make sure that you also watch out for yourself and get the time you need to keep yourself happy.

  What resources are available to you depends on the type of employment problem you are having. You don’t say what type of problem it is or whether you are an employee or employer, but if you want to get a lawyer involved I recommend calling your local bar association Lawyer referral service (usually those bar associations are divided up by County). They will usually set you up for a relatively low cost consultation with local lawyers specializing in employment law to see if you have a case. If you are an employee and feel you are being discriminated against because of your race, gender, religion, national origin, or a disability there are a number of non-profit legal aid organizations that can help you for free or at a low cost (depending on your income and their guidelines).   My Aunt is in her early 50s and also suffers from dementia. Its really hard, and frankly, in her case, counseling isn’t going to do anything for her. My cousins are older than you, but it is still hard on them as she could no longer take care of herself and had to be watched constantly. Obviously I don’t know about your mom’s case, but maybe you need to talk to someone about getting more help in taking care of your mother and the house if she can no longer do those things. If you can’t talk to your dad, maybe you could talk to your older brother?
  Having to care for an ill relative is one of the hardest jobs you do for your family at any age. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

  wow… my response is pretty much the opposite of Lyza’s. Yes, you have both changed, yes, you aren’t currently feeling the spark, but that doesn’t mean you never will again. Even the best, most ideal, perfect marriages take work. Instead of telling anonymous people on the internet about how you feel. You should be discussing your feelings tactfully with your wife. I strongly recommend using a therapist to help you frame the issues you see in the most constructive light, and to help keep the discussion civil and productive.
  The things you complain about are changeable and together you can work to fix them.
  For instance, refusing to work out or lacking motivation to do so is frequently a symptom of depression. If that is the case, treatment of the underlying issue will help her to feel excited about life and its possibilities and likely help her get in shape.
  Religion: As the child of an aethiest father and religious mother, it doesn’t have to be the battle you seem to forsee. I grew up going to church but both my parents respect my right to decide for myself, so I ended up more on the religious/agnostic spectrum, depending on the day. My siblings are more on the aetheist/ agnostic side. Respecting every individual’s right to believe what they want to believe what works for them is the key.
  Interests: work to cultivate joint interests. Plan days where you suggest three new activities you think you would both enjoy and she picks one (bonus if you can get her to do activities that require physical exertion). Or have her pick three activities she thinks you would both enjoy and you pick one. Finding activities you both enjoy to do together will help you enjoy each other’s company.
  
  I guess my bottom line, is yes, this does take work on both of your parts. But if you truly respect her , the love you had, and the marriage vows you took. You can make this work and find the love you think you lost. Leaving will be hard, and in the end no matter how amazing any new woman turns out to be at first, you will have to put work into that relationship to make it work too.
