  Lucky, I have also tried a multitude of stress reliving activities and enlisted the help of a psychiatrist to no avail. I know I have problems regulating my emotions and when I get extremely upset I find relief from the harsh physical sensations I inexact upon myself therefore alleviating the emotional turmoil temporary. I used to be proud of my scars as well. They were sign to the people around me that as much as they showed they didn’t care about me that the feeling was mutual. I’ve been off and on med’s with varying degrees of success and have realized that I needed to learn better coping skills, and rethink the way I perceived the world. In my case I realized my triggers were an unhealthy relationship and a lot of circumstances I couldn’t control around me. I had to work on stabilizing my life so I wouldn’t be at the mercy of these ups and down . I’m not saying I don’t get the urge to cut anymore, but when I do I just try to think about how I will feel in the morning. The sore limbs, scabs, and the hiding of the cuts aren’t worth it. I’ve found that the emotions that give me the urge to cut will peak with the impuluse lasting in a 10-15 mintue span and if I just wait it out I usually calm down considerably.
