She walked on, stumbling slightly on the uneven ground beneath her weary feet. The sounds around her were muffled in the blanket of fog that had wrapped the forest in its seemingly unending span.
Her breath hitched as a shadow darted onto the path in front of her, its yellow eyes seemed to glow almost amber, it had been stalking her for days through the Black Forest, and the fog had not once lifted, now she was close enough to see its true shape, the creature from the night, the howl when she was near the lake, it all made sense.
It had a wolf like shape, but its shoulders stood at six foot high, and as it growled its terrifying teeth were shown, a dark read liquid dripping from its canines. It advanced on her and she slowly started moving backwards, she felt the twigs snapping underfoot as dry as bone, the lower branches reaching and tangling in her hair like skeletal hands, the vines that crisscrossed the forests floor meshing together in a net, ready to ensnare her feet.
The creature pounced at the same second that the girl dropped to the floor, the vines having finally caught her, it twisted back, and jumped at her again, she braced herself fearfully, waiting for it to rip her throat open, as Lycans were said to do to their prey when the hunger gripped them, she just hoped this one was hungry because if it wasn’t then it would want to ‘play with her’, and her death would be a thousand times more painful.
She heard the sound of rushing air fly past her, which was followed shortly by an ear-splitting howl. She opened her eyes a crack at first but soon opened them widely as she saw the monster writhing on the floor with a crudely cut arrow sticking from its chest. She heard footsteps walking past her, the heavy steps making a loud crunching on the dry forest floor. Without pausing they passed her, as she lay on the ground, and standing next to the beast, the man stood, with his foot on his neck and shot it through, the creature stopped its writhing and lay still.
The shadowed man turned and walked slowly towards her, with every footstep in her direction her heartbeat increased, a dull pounding in her ears. With another step, the figure loomed over her and she screwed up her eyes, to hide the abnormality that they housed. However they flew back open with a gasp of shock as she was lifted up into the strangers arms, her shock soon turned into pain, as she realised one arm was broken, as was one of her legs.
“Hush now love” whispered the voice, “I will try not to hurt you, and I do not want to cause you pain”
The voice was near indescribable, but dear reader, I will try.
