So what issues in particular are you concerned about & as an activist what are you doing about it and what do you think the rest of us should do?
2008-11-04 14:20:46 on I would like to see more equality with women.
It’s not a perception I’ve come across much - you’ll always get a few idiots whether racist or chauvanistic but it doesn’t seem somthing ingrained in English culture. In fact due to equality legislation if you’re going for a government job (police/fire/counsel/forces) you’re more likely to get the job sometimes they even advertise for women, homosexuals and ethnic minorities only. Aside for that slight bias towards women I can’t think of any way tjhey are treated unequaly - except by the small group of idiots of course but you can always find someone who hate you whichever gender you are.

With women or for women?
Oh and which country are you in?
2008-11-04 14:13:36 on movie crash - What is the issue between the African American director and the white producer?
The producer wants the actor to stay in his character which he feels has changed, to try to describe how he feels the performance has changed he uses the term ‘black’ (”isn’t he sounding a bit less ‘black’ to you?”) presumably refering to the fact that the character conforms to a speech type which is used mostly in some areas with a high African-American population.
The director, having just undergone an incident in which he felt racial abuse was a factor, is insulted by the inference that his colour is a factor in how the character is percieved and is expected to speak as a result of this perception.
It seemed quite a realistic scene to me, an unfortunate and unnescessary clash. The producer could easily have phrased his statement so that the actors character rather than his colour was the given reason for his query & the director could equaly easily have made the effort to see the real reason for the question - the integrity of the character. The producer was insensitive & the director was oversensitive - I don’t think either of them were doing anything notably wrong just one of those things where people fall out over nothing in particular.
2008-11-04 12:56:25 on Does anyone know any methods of joing rubber or know of any sites that have the information?
It’s a bodge job & it isn’t very good for the rubber but superglue will bond rubber to rubber or rubber to pretty much anything else you might want to glue it to. If you want to bond rubber to rubber, then rubber cement (the stuff you get in bike puncture kits) will work ok, it’s better for the rubber but I don’t think it’s as strong and I doubt you could use it to bond the rubber to anything else.
2008-11-02 14:30:39 on What do you want (or to do) for Christmas this year that you will remember 10 years from now?
It sounds daft but my best Christmas was last year. I worked a half shift, got home, threw a pizza in the oven, watched a few films then went to bed. No family arguments, no elaborate cooking, no stress, no expence and half a day off. The perfect Christmas. I’m planning the same again this year.

Yup, any level 3 qualification should do (A levels, NVQ3, OCN etc.) When you’re looking at courses ask how many ‘UCAS points’ you will get for it (these often vary depending on what grade you pass with as well as which course you do.) When you apply for a university place they will demand that you have got a certain amount of ‘UCAS points’. The better the university and the better the degree the more points you will need. These aren’t the only factor in getting a university place but they are an important one.
2008-11-02 10:23:41 on I need help!
Ok, you need to go to university and get a degree in the subject area (English) you want to teach and then do another course afterwards called a ‘PGCE’ this should get you a job as a teacher.
Right now you’re gearing up to your GCSEs you need to get good enough grades to go on to your A levels. When you’re doing your A levels you want to get good enough grades to get into university.
Most places will let you progress to A level in you got an A,B or C grade in the subject at GCSE and they normally ask that you achived at least a total of 5 A,B or C grades. The system for getting into university is a bit more complicated but don’t worry about looking too far ahead.
2008-11-02 10:09:24 on I need help!
You need a degree in the relevent subject and a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education.) The PGCE can either be earned by doing an extra year at uni or in some cases ‘on the job’ subject to a placement on the scheme. At the moment you need to get the GCSE grades to get yourself on the relevent AS & A2 courses and from there into Uni.
2008-11-02 09:51:52 on What do you think?
I think that rarely have I heard such an unsubstantiated piece of eugenicaly minded, biased propaganda with various non-issue, pseudo-religious smears shoehorned in for good measure.

Sorry, not impressed in the slightest.

2008-11-02 09:37:49 on I’m planning to change my course to Photography in Fine arts by next semester.
I’m sorry but you’ve got to look to yourself on that. We can provide pointers and general good advice but how can we tell someone we’ve never met whether or not to go on a course we know nothing about?
2008-11-02 07:23:46 on I’m planning to change my course to Photography in Fine arts by next semester.
It is worth finding out whether the course is based on practical skill, theoretical knowledge or photographic art appreciation/history. Naturaly most courses contain all these elements with a great deal of overlap in some areas but many have a particular emphasis on one of these parts. The only way the course can be useless is if you want to gain a particular type of knowledge about photography which is wholly or partialy excluded from the course - assuming of course that the lecturers are competant. Talk to the lecturers, among the things you’ll need to find out are whether the course is being taught at the level you are currently at; whether you’ll be working on digital, film or both; what equipment you will require; what equipment is available for loan; how the course is assesed; what skills you will aquire & what future the course is designed to prepare you for.
A photography course can only really serve as a beginning, it can’t set you up to be a fully competant professional photographer the second you get your certificate (and that includes the courses which promise to do exactly that.) A good course can give you a good knowledge base, some hands on experience and best of all, in a well equipped college, the oppertunity to play around with some ludicrously expensive equipment - sweet!
