Hi Mums, As previously mentioned I had a discussion with one of the mods a week or so ago about my presence on this site and whether my replies were in accordance with the terms of use. To cut a long story short without going into a long rant about who is right and who is wrong I’ve decided to move to another forum. All the best (and all that jazz) Man_with_a_mop
This place seems to be a hotbed of misunderstandings at the moment (I get the feeling some are willful.) But to be fair I’ve not always read other people’s posts as correctly and consistantly as I would have liked. Still you’re welcome to borrow my mop anytime you would like to do a bit of cleaning around the place.
Cup of tea?
Ah! Yes..see the incident in your shouts. Misunderstanding I think/hope. You would not be the first to be baffled by some of the things that go on here, believe me! For what it’s worth, I totally agree. No-one should be giving a diagnosis on here, not even a doctor. I think the person who complained must have taken it personally when it was clearly meant to be a general comment. I had that happen to me a couple of times (see my shouts/replies). I’m going to ask Santa if I can have an iggy button for Christmas so I can block out the ones who just like to use the site to play silly games. Or a mop icon to clean up some of the language!
I’m impressed! I sent myself a shout (like a prat) and you got it anyway! Hurrah enemas all round!
I agree, members of the ‘flat earth society’ can be dangerous and I’ve heard a lot of strange things on here, some very dangerous. I got a warning from a mod the other day, for recommending a poster ignore anyone who tries to give them a medical diagnosis online, which frightened the heck out of me. Sorry I’m starting to gripe. Maybe it’s good to get some of these daft ideas like racial superiority out in the open though. Then they can be publicly held up for scrutiny and demolition rather than left to fester in the minds of those less inclined to think with their heads.
Don’t we just. I don’t mind the eccentrics, but there are some specimens who are positively dangerous with their daft ideas of right and wrong and how to deal with life’s problems!
Oh how happy am I to be in the UK, where the US election season and all it’s trappings are somthing to giggle at from a distance. At least it’s loud enough to distract me from our ever worsening politicians over here while feeling sufficiently distant to be comfortable.
All that aside, how are you?
Have taken liberties and added you to my collection of lovely avatars. Not least because I could use someone who knows how to handle a mop… hope you don’t mind!
I have my own theories on what the score is when it comes to what is allowed and what isn’t… but it wouldn’t be fair to go into them here. I do think some replies could easily be removed to clarify the standards without banning the users per se. I’m more concerned with trying to preserve the integrity of the site and shouting “foul” when I see it. There’s no excuse for some things that are said in any environment. Hey ho! Such is life! Cuppa tea?
I’m equally confused sometimes. I guess sometimes a valid opinion can seem harsh even to the point of being insulting, it’s a fine line which must be a headache for the moderators. I guess in walking that fine line they have a choice between risking banning those who had simply shared a valid opinion or risking allowing a few inappropriate posts through the system. That said I have little to no respect for those who exploit the mods caution. I’m just guessing though, Mas would probably be able to fill you in on what criteria they use. I’ve noticed that long-term users tend to get away with more than the new guys which seems strange.
Thank you. I appreciate your message. Good to know someone out there thinks along the same lines as me! I’m intrigued though… certain users seem to consistently get away with abusive and insulting behaviour. I thought the TOU were glaringly obvious myself!
Don’t want to put this in the post [I think I might kill someone], I think it’s got heated enough already.
I can’t help agreeing with you. I often find that a simple disagreement rapidly turns into an argument, some people just have to be right rather than let their opinion sit alongside the rest. If ever I find myself being pushed onto the defensive I just clarify whatever point people took objection to and leave the post. It’s the one thing that turns me off Help.com. Anyway that’s all by the by, just writing to say that your opinion and comments were read and appreciated (by me anyway, for what it’s worth) I just didn’t feel like getting back in the middle.
