• I’m having a problem getting over an old girlfriend, it’s been about 5/6 months since we split and i just can’t get over her.
  

  I hear you. Unfortunately, there is no crystal ball.
  
  My personal aim has been to “hold out” for my equal. I’ve thought a few times that I’ve met him, but have always been disappointed. Why? Maybe I’m not *really* myself, yet. Maybe I have no equal. Who knows? The best that I can do right now, though, is simply do what is best for me and not get caught up in “needing to be loved.”
  
  We all have baggage. We all have misperceptions of ourselves, to a greater or lesser degree. And, it seems that we all want that Romance Novel relationship that will last forever. You can’t force someone to treat you the way you want to be treated. The only thing one really has any control over is how one chooses to direct one’s life.
  
  Please give yourself the benefit of that break I suggested to you, and don’t forget to take care of you.

• How far is too far?
  

  No one can tell you what you should do, or what is right for you. If you were my child, I would explain to you that sexual activity has very adult repercussions. It is my opinion that if someone isn’t ready for those repercussions (e.g., pregnancy, an injury, coping emotionally), then perhaps they aren’t ready for that type of intimacy.
  
  The other thing that you both should recognize is that your hormones are going through a great deal of changes. Raging hormones are typically the number one reason why younger people choose to be sexually intimate, before they’re really ready to be.
  
  Find something else to do that you both enjoy, if you’re really uncertain. True love isn’t about pawing all over each other and chewing each other’s lips, anyway.

  Find contentment with being with yourself. Basing your sense of self-worth on the admiration of another will only make you dependent upon him or her. A feeling of strength based upon the acceptance of another will only place you in a dangerous situation down the road.
  
  Find a way to find your inner-strength.

  I guess you’re in your early 20s? At 41 years old, my heart has been broken too many times. But, I’ve always gotten over the hurt, eventually. Not with “a new love.” That’s cheating oneself from a lesson learned.
  
  Aside from the complexities of what’s really going on with your relationship, making yourself a better and stronger person is more important than what someone else thinks of you.
  
  I know you think of yourself as an adult, but it may be that you and your estranged girlfriend are not yet ready for a deeply intimate relationship. You are both still formulating your own beliefs, values, opinions, your needs, your wants, what you have to offer…
  
  I understand that you feel a sense of loss, and are confused about how to handle the situation. The only immediate action you may be able to take is to get out and go for a walk in a nice park or the woods. Try to give yourself a break from focusing on “That Situation” and just let your mind relax. Let yourself enjoy your surroundings.
  
  What do you really want to know? Just ask yourself the right questions, and eventually your mind will hit you with the most accurate answers that you are capable of computing. You don’t have to gnaw on it.
