Sorry about the late reply, Vancouver is a shithole and I’m never coming back. When you press 3 you’re only getting an in-viewport preview, it won’t look that way at render time, so avoid modeling with previews. As for rendering video with MentalRay I’d go with .mov, but .mov can be a dick so maybe .avi

I’m glad you enjoy 3d modeling, because the roles you can work in in the industry or endless, and it is the entertainment industry, a fun and creative place to work. Keep at it, when you’re struggling the most is when you learn the most, it really is a lesson in patience, as I’ve learned the hard way :P If ya need any help or advice don’t hesitate to ask!

Oh man flv conversion is a total pain in the ass, I searched fo 3 days looking for a god converter, that was about a year ago tho. I was using realplayer to download streamed movies and wanted to burn them to dvd. Let me know if you find a good one.
