There is no way to ACT mature and serious, you have to actually BE mature and serious. You can’t fake it, because you can only keep up a fake personality for so long and eventually it won’t hold up.

This is a person you’ve never even met? Don’t worry about it, he’s probably just trying to freak you out. Make friends with people who are less dramatic.

Ask him to help give you examples of more appropriate ways to say things. Whenever you say something that sounds mean ask him how he would have said it. Keep practicting this until you start to get a picture of what he would rather hear, eventually it will start to come more naturally to you. If you are really upset and are thinking of something to say that you KNOW is mean, then take a few minutes to cool off before you continue the discussion.
