• My girlfriend hates herself.
  

  I’m 24 and I have bipolar disorder. As a girl who grew up with depression and self-esteem issues I can tell you that it’s never simple and there’s no quick-fix solution. I used to isolate myself and nothing anyone said to me made a difference in how i really felt about myself.
  I don’t know the whole story of her situation but I can tell you that whatever it is, having someone to talk to about it makes a world of a difference, the fact that she has you there for her is huge and its important to give yourself credit for the fact that you’re doing all you can to be there for her and showing how much you care.
  Obviously the main reason she would reject therapy would be because of her trust issues. Before I got help the idea of sharing my problems with anyone felt embarassing and besides I felt like what I was going through was so huge that no one could really help me. i did eventually get help and have found that when I was ready for it, there were so many people out there who wanted to help me and it saved my life. Its amazing what opens up for you when you’re ready to look for it. What always really really helped me was hearing other people’s stories that I could relate to. It helped me feel less alone in my problems and gave me more motivation to reach out to others and share what I was dealing with.
  If she can’t open up to you right now it could be that she’s just not ready to talk about it, but it’s important not to focus on that all the time. If I were you I would just focus on the positive things that you share, being a person in her life that will help her forget her troubles and remind her of the happy things in life and just make sure that she knows that you’ll always be there for her when she’s ready to talk. I know that even when I was breaking down crying and felt like the world was ending I always had some good friends that could make me laugh at myself or the dumbest things and that’s what got me through the best.
