Born in Los Angeles (San Fernando to be exact) Mother was married, got involved with her Dentist, Clifford Johnson, became pregnant, had me. The Dentist offered her help but, she refused. He did pay for the Dr. to deliver me at home. I never met him or saw a picture of him. She left her husband, moved to Fillmore, worked in bars to support me and my two half sisters. They were taken away by their father. I didn’t see them for 15 years. Grew up in Carpinteria, moved to Santa Paula, left school at 16, forced to marry my rapist, because I was pregnant. Had four children. divorced him after years of physical abuse. Had my tubes tied so as not to have anymore kids. Worked three part time jobs to keep my kids in clothes and a roof over their heads, all the while had to be fighting off my ex. He insisted on injuring me every chance he got. I called the cops on him everytime he tried to hurt me. He finally left me somewhat alone, then I met a man who seemed to have the same interessts as and marrried him. Mistake. I went back to school got some education. Worked as a waitress to supplement my kids lunch money, worked at two jobs at the local school district. Then worked for the Welfare office for about 16 years. Retired with a work related injury. Divorced second husband. Moved to AZ. Worked as a housing inspector, children all grew up and made their own lives.
Now I am living in a 1977 mobile home that I bought when I moved here for $27,000. I now have paid it off. And it is fallying down. I am very proud of myself and so are my childre. I have always been very independent and now I feel that I need help with my housing problem. I now have Diabetes and Osteoarthritis and can hardly walk. It is hard to ask for help, but, I do need it.
