  i grew up in victoria, but now live in vancouver.
  
  forget about what jesus murphy said about it, i happen to live in the area theyre talking about, and its pretty highly gentrified now, so forget about those misconceptions. its true that vancouver is very expensive to live in, the cheaper areas are whats known as metro vancouver, that is the whole area of vancouver outside of downtown, such as richmond, burnaby, and east van. i personally have lived on robson street downtown (the most commercial street in vancouver) and found it to be a great area. that whole area is known as the west end and its actually really affordable, plus its where all the good jobs are. so you can live in ****** richmond or burnaby for cheap and make a long commute, or you can live in the downtown westend and pay a little more for a whole lot more experience and culture. where i live now, in gastown, is really cool, but can be expensive and i guess if youre close minded and uneducated then you might find it to be too scary, but you’d be missing out on the cutting edge “artists area.” its most definitely not overcrowded in vancouver though, that seems like the person only said it because they were trying to say something of some kind of legitimacy. if you want to talk overcrowded then take a look at any large world city (which vancouver is not considered one of) such as tokyo, new york, paris, london, beijing, those places are overcrowded.
  
  as for victoria, you dont want to live in the outskirts (sooke, esquimalt, etc) because there is NOTHING there. you should try to live in either oak bay, fairfield, cordova bay, or downtown. housing will pretty much cost the same in all those places and it will be much nicer living. downtown victoria is beautiful, so is beacon hill park, so i recommend fairfield, thats where i grew up and its really truly like no other place in the world. its really a truly gorgeous city but its not that big, so dont expect any big nightlife. but there are still a lot of great spots. the beaches are fantastic like wittys lagoon, and sooke potholes, or in town gonzales or gonzo beach as the locals call it can be really nice in the summer.

  im from vancouver and as far as the canadian cities go i can tell you that if youre into the outdoors, music, vibrancy, cutting edge design, a city full of youth, fresh air, breathtaking landscapes and great shopping vancouver is the place for you. if you like quaint little streets, warm coffee shops, old buildings, a slightly behind the times yet still interesting music scene, COLD COLD COLD, and did i say cold? you’ll like montreal.
  
  i’ve also been to berkeley, its ok, sort of a college feel, kind of a cute little area, but just not enough uniqueness.

  i know, its so hard to know where to draw the line of “OK i give up.” because i really truly do love him, but i feel like hes taken everything out of me and left me as a sort of shell of my former self. maybe couples counseling would be a good idea, although i feel like if i proposed that idea to him he would just laugh.
  
  i do have friends that i can go out with, but since i started dating him i’ve sort of lost touch with their lives. also i feel like my relationship, and the nature of it, with my boyfriend has forced me to mature beyond the mental capacity of my peers. every time i hang out with my friends now i realize all they talk about is some girl they hate, or how drunk/high they were the night before, or their stupid self-important parties. i just need a change, i want to start over.
