Kyleschwent got it right, at least loosely. To put it technically, meaningfulness is subjective and dependent on the individual’s desires and values. One cannot prove or disprove any meaningfulness, as it’s beyond the realm of science. This is where Indefinite gets it horribly wrong. Indefinite is committing the is/ought fallacy.
2008-05-19 13:21:30 on in what ways does climate change affect different locations different?
Generally speaking, where it’s hot it will get hotter, and cold will get colder, wet wetter, dry drier, etc etc. It’s a complex phenomenon. It’s causing people in Argentina and Chile to die of cold, whereas it’s also causing the desertification of central Africa.

Sorry, that’s the Kinsey scale.

Ya, in the post that’s awaiting approval I identified myself as gender q**er. I’m a 4 on the McKenzie scale. The girl I’m with at the moment was one of only two girls I loved, both of whom were Tom Boys. Unfortunately, my girlfriend also has the masculine qualities of being dominating and authoritative.

Ah, ditto (though I wrote it the wrong way in my post, so it’s waiting approval), so that makes sense.

Are you not a guy then? I ask because most guys aren’t that honest about how guys typically act.

Thank you for the compliment, definitely appreciated :)
It might have something to do with being into philosophy, or being gender queer

I just checked, turns out I am a guy.

Ok, thank you both for the ideas, I’ll definitely consider them.

I asked about what the friendship means to you because I’ve been thinking about what your friendship would really be if you didn’t tell her. This isn’t a trivial withholding of information. It’s not like you didn’t tell her what you ate for breakfast. In not telling her your feelings you’re being dishonest in a fundamental way that will degrade the friendship. If you think her response would be so terrible that the facade of a friendship is better, then keep going with the current path. If that option isn’t acceptable, then you might as well tell her.
What’s the worst that could happen? She says something to the effect of “ew… no way I want to be friends with you any more.” If that happens, then clearly she isn’t friends with *you*. She isn’t willing to be friends with someone who has your attitudes and desires, which means she’s a terrible friend to begin with.
She might respond with “no thanks, but I appreciate you telling me”, then so much the better. You’ve still got your great friendship and no harm.
If she likes you too, then maybe she’ll tell you. In that case either A) She’ll break up with her boyfriend to be with you (not likely), B) She’ll want to be polyamorous (the boyfriend won’t go for it, and there would be some fighting, but in the end you’ll still be friends with her), or C) She’ll tell you that she likes you, but that she loves her boyfriend too much to risk their relationship.
Seems like telling her is a win/win/win situation.

Well, she could, but that would be polyamory, which is way too abnormal for most people to handle

what does it mean for you two to be friends? That that suggest that you know each other, and accept each other?

How would she respond if you told her?

But I’m not convinced that honesty is always better. Honesty will lead to her feeling terrible, but no good will come out of it that I can see. After I leave, that’s it, and it won’t matter any more.

if you tell her, she’ll stop being intimate with you (holding hands etc)
if you don’t tell her, you’ll continue anguishing over it
but perhaps a day will come when she won’t have a boyfriend, and will really appreciate your intimacy
