tawny's Top (2) Replies by other users' votesThere was a woman once that I met that handed me a card that explained her social illness. She had difficulty interacting and was extremely shy to the point of not answering in conversations. After reading the card all awkwardness left because I knew she wanted to interact but I would need to do most of the talking for a while. It took weeks before she started joining in with conversations and about 6 months later we were great friends and she was very chatty. Most people are quite understanding of disabilities and quirks that people have. You interact great online. One of my sons 26 was almost like you. He never spoke to strangers but would smile. The smile always lets people know you are interested in them and that you are friendly. My son won’t talk on the phone but he is the master at text messaging and one of the most talented writers I have ever read. He keeps in touch with many people just by texting. Some people are lacking in some areas and brilliant in others. Makes life interesting. Keep trying and know that you are a fantastic person weather you speak to others or not.

hi Rainbow Girl, my 19 year old son cuts himself. It is part of his bipolar illness. He says he does it for a few reasons. The biggest for him is to feel a strong sensation to help him feel alive and that he is real. Some of his meds numb him out pretty bad. We have worked out a system. When he is to the point where he feels he needs to cut himself he comes to me and we go to town and put him on one of those wild rides that drop you from a rubberband 100 feet in the air. Gives him a good adrenalin rush and it seems to satisfy his need to cut himself. My son and I have a very open communication and I am not judgemental. We have been living in a world of mental illness for a few years now and have learned to not judge people. No one knows what is really going on in anothers mind. Some may not have control over some things and others just need to get to the right doctors for help or medication to balance their chemistry. You may want to seek out a psychiatrist that specializes in bipolar. Many bipolars have a problem with cutting.
