  Hello:
  There are probably so many other parents going through the very same thing. The morals and values of the younger generation are in shambles. With the TV shows, movies, rap music, video games (especially video games) the children are being raised to beleive that running from the police, shooting people, cursing, etc. are all acceptable behavior. Again, our fault for not saying NO when they wanted something. We are having our son tested for Bi-polar disorder in the next two weeks. He has failed his driving test twice now. He states his doesn’t need the piece of paper that says he can drive. Luckily the car is in my name and I forbide him to take the car out of the driveway. Fortunately, he is afraid of me but not his mother. He has taken the car when I am on the road working. Guess I have to pull the plug wires. He had extra keys made you know! These kids aren’t dumb! Put them in jail and who knows what they will learn.
  Anyway, thank you for your reply. I talked to him about military school. You thought I was putting him in a gas chamber! He hates school now. He only goes once a week and it’s a charter school for 4 hours a day and computer work only. Go figure.
  Take care, God Bless and hang in there. My wife practically cries herself to sleep every night. I just hurt and blame myself.

  First….don,t yell back. This will only turn into a battle of superiority to which you would lose no matter what you do.
  Second….in a calm voice ask her why she is yelling at you……”what did I do mom that has made you so upset?”
  Third…..If she insists on yelling at you and it actually is for no fault of your own, just nod your head, look concerned and think of good things like being on a beach on a sunny day, going for a long walk in a park, listening to your favorite song. This may sound harsh to ignore your mother, but there must be something going on in her world that is causing her to raise her voice to get attention. Maybe there is something you can do to help, but not when she is in “her mood”.
  Fourth…..if and when there is a time when you and your mom are face to face and the moment seems right….have a conversation about situations around the house or work that maybe she would like to talk about. Tell her you have noticed that sometimes she seems to be upset. Tell her you love her and you are concerned.
  It is always a tough situation to have a parent upset at you for no apparent reason, but as their child to get into an argument with your parent, you will always be the one to lose the battle.
  As the good Reverend Daniel stated…..God has a plan and will ALWAYS look out for you and be there when you ask for his help. We may not know at this time what that yelling from your mother means now…..but it will come to light when God is ready to show you.

  Thank you both for your comments. I will talk to the doctor on our next visit to check my son for bi-polar. Our 31 year old daughter has bi-polar. Also mental illness runs on my wives side of the family. In the meantime, We can not see turning our son into the police. We will try to see if he will go see a mental health specialist with us (or alone if he prefers). He is now pretty much staying at his girlfriends house and coming home some nights. He called into work late again today and was told not to come in for the day. It looks as though he is going to have to learn the hard way. Our hearts ache.
