In need of some help and personal stories from people who struggle with self harm, or who have in the past.

There isn’t really an answer that applies to every person but in general it is a way of coping with internal pain. For some people to only way to deal with it and to validate it in their head is to express it physically. So they can see it and know that it’s real. Some people find the physical pain distracts them from the overwhelming emotional pain they feel. Others use it as a method of control. They want t prove to themselves that the body they are in is theirs and they have control over it. Others self harm in an effort to simply feel. Unable to feel anything, emotions etc they cut to break free of this. As strange as it may sound to someone who has never self injured, many people do not feel a thing when they self injure. People cut so deep they require stitches, without feeling a thing. The act can relieve emotional pain as it triggers the body to release natural pian killers which geve the person who has self harmed a sense of calmness, and then the addictive cycle begins. Lots of people assume people who self harm are attentions seekers when in fact for many, noone knows they do it. In fact they go to great lengths to hide this secret.
