  That is the differance, faith is of a spiritual nature, if you believe in others, then that is “Belief” in others, faith is in a higher being. When you have faith in yourself or others, that is really belief:
  
  Faith: 1) a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith
  2) Christian Theology. the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved
  
  Belief: 1) something believed; an opinion or conviction: a belief that the earth is flat
  2) Belief is such acceptance in general: belief in astrology.

  PomPom aside from the religious zelots trying to start a religous debate, (Omarish before you go any further, I am a christtian, I just dislike it when others try to turn everything into a religious debate), not every snake is akilling eating poisonus machine, in fact there are only a small handful of snakes that are like that. MOstly snakes are just snakes, another creature put on this earth by god, or whatever reason you believe.
  Asking why a snake would be used as a symbol of healing by another culture is like asking why the natzi’s used their symbol for bad but in the egyption culture it was a godly symbol. . .or why the pitchfork is in some cultures a symbol of the devil but in others its a symbol of power through posiden. . .
  You asked for the history of the star of life, i provided you that answer. Hopefully to your satisfaction. A lot of medical symbols and root language comes from the greek backround becuase thats where it is thought to have started in the mordern world ever since then it has stuck
  
  Omarish, reguardless of what you say and/or believe, and regaurdless of wheather or not we believe in the same thing or not, this is not a religious debate. The fact is that there are many many other cultures in the world that put there faith in something other than what you and I may believe in, and instead of trying to discuss how “dead” their sociaties are for worshiping those”false idols”, maybe you should take a step back and just look at the discussion for what it was meant to be, a history of the star of life, NOT a religious discussion.
  If you want to have a religious discussion then make a seperate post.
  FYI I think, i might be mistaken, but i think that somewhere in the NIV bible it speaks on the subject of acceptance, and that although there are many beliefs in this world that may differ from your own, that as a wittness of christ you are to act as he would. Now I dont remember Christ telling running around telling ppl that they were wrong and that if they didnt worship the one true god they were going to be killed. As I remember it, He preached the word of god and tried to show ppl the truth, not through ranting about improper religons, and cultures, but through truth and acceptance and love. . . .

  just like the romans worshiped their many different gods
  just like the egyptians worshipped their many different gods
  just like the catholics worship the father the son and the holy spirit
  just like the satanists worship satan
  just like certain tribes in different parts of the world worship trees
  just like jehovahs witness’s
  just like the jews . . . .
  
  I could keep going but you get the point, the belief in one’s religon is usually based on long stand cultural traditions. . . .

  It is only assumed to be a symbol of evil, but that is not actually the case. There are many examples of this thorughout history. People get one specific thing into their head such as a bible story, and automatically assume that it represents something when in reallity it does not.

  The Star of Life is the symbol representing Emergency Medical Technicians. Both the American Medical Association and the Advisory Council within the Department of Health and Human Services encourage this symbols use. The symbol’s six-barred cross represents the six-system function of the EMS: Detection; Reporting; Response; On Scene Care; Care in Transit; Transfer to Definitive Care. The staff in the center of the symbol represents medicine and healing. According to Greek mythology, the staff belonged to Asclepius, the son of Apollo (god of light, truth, and prophecy). Asclepius supposedly learned the art of healing from the Centaur Cheiron. But he elicited the wrath of the god Zeus when he started resurrecting people from the dead. Fearful that Asclepius’ knowledge might render mankind immortal; Zeus slew Asclepius with a thunderbolt. Eventually Zeus restored Asclepius to life, making him a god. Asclepius is usually shown in a standing position, dressed in a long cloak and holding a staff with a curative serpent coiled around it, an image that Zeus later set among the starts. Worshippers used to sleep in Asclepius’ temples in the belief that Asclepius cured the sick during their dreams.
