  First, i want to thank everyone for the responses and encouragement. It means a lot to me.
  Update; The parents of one of the young people had an old van sitting on their property…not used in 5 years. Several of the young people have been working hard to fix it. They have it running and we’ve put new tires on it. If all goes well insurance/title will be done in the morning. Send some good thoughts, energy, prayer…

  Most don’t find our county to be a great place and want out of here as quickly as possible. I can relate to the hate…I’ve never seen so much in all my life and it saddens me.
  
  People helping people is something each of us can do no matter where we are. It’s also a great way to meet others(and make the world a better place). If graffiti is a problem in your area you could organize your peers to be a first response team to cover the writing. Making cards to send to young people in children’s homes, writing letters of upliftment to send to places like Ronald McDonald house, calling to check on elderly residents who live alone. Start a rap group for you and your peers or a support system. There are many other ideas too. I can think of zillions. If you find you are serious about community service I can try brainstorming with you. I bet you could come up with ideas too. If you think of something, there may be others in your area who would be interested in forming a group to implement your project. Great way to socialize and meet others! Even a youth action group…just meet weekly (more or less its up to you) and discuss ways of improving your town or ways of creating activities.
  
  The young people I work with have come to understand, the only way our community will improve is if they make this community what they want it to be. No easy task if you knew what type of attitude they are up against. They don’t want to be the ones who have to do the work although they realize if they don’t do it, no one else is going to. They work hard and little by little they are changing the area they live in. I also encourage them to think about one day becoming involved in local politics. When we started…there was nothing. Zilch. Many of the young people can tell you stories about how lonely they were…Most never had friends.
