  having read all the imputs on this site I now realise how many of us are suffering, both those with bi-polar and the carers. More pain is experienced by the carer due to awareness of the problem. The sufferer is luckily cushioned from the real problem, by just not being able to ’see’
  
  I have been a carer now for a few weeks whilst my wife has been in really bad manic state. We are far from home in a foreign country, and living on a yacht. The difficult implications you can probably imagine. I have tried anger…no good. Today I started telling her I was feeling unwell and needed caring for. I acted as in a weak state, finding it difficult to do things or think straight for myself. Basically acting the part of a helpless disturbed person. The change in her was quite interesting. No more anger, but wanted to give me medicine, soothing drinks, pampering in fact. She became benevolent. So here I am acting the helpless little boy. What is so striking in reading all the letters is the amazing similarity of behavior. The person you know so well justs changes into someone else. I am trying to get help, and I think I will have to pretend its me who needs to see a doctor (as suggested in one of the letters) If this input is of any use, but I note that if you ‘ACT’ the part of the manic person, you will get an interesting response. You won’t win any Occars though! Just copy what your wife/husband does….enter their world and you can do something from the inside, so to speak. Thanks for all of you for writing about your experiences it must help a lot of people who are in trouble with this very difficult condition. Terry
