Hi Jim, I am Carol and am a mod. Your reply quoted someone that had a profanity in his reply. His name was appropriately something like brain dead. You did nothing wrong, he did. Carol

I deleted one of your reply’s because it contained a quote from a moron.
Thank you, Carol

Well allow me to spook you just a bit more: I was living in Munich, Germany in 1971. Also, Fibro is also a neuro illness - it just hasn’t been “officially” moved into that category yet.
I couldn’t agree with you more re: lack of ethics is using animals for those types of entertainment purposes.
Nice getting to know you; looking forward to bumping into you in posts.
BTW: Ich habe auch viel von der deutschen Sprache vergessen. Das geschieht während wir älter wachsen.

Thank you ***so*** much for putting the name of your avatar’s monkey on your profile page! Staring at those incredible eyes, it’s been nagging the heck out me - I knew I’d seen an amazing program regarding that very same type of monkey - but for the life of me, I couldn’t remember it’s name. Was just about to do an extensive search re: types of monkeys when I decided to check your profile page for some hints. Thanks for saving me hours of hair pulling research time LOL. What an absolutely adorable little creature - great avatar pic! OMG, those eyes!

Same here Jim. Lots of struggle. The other day I asked them a question: what do you want to do, play on the computer or go outside to play, and 80% of them said play on the computer…fights and struggle start from the root. If we could educate their parents too……

Yes, these are the things urban kids miss. They are in front of a box all day long and they don’t know anymore anything about nature. Now we have so many sick kids, kids with ADHD and so forth…they need to go outside to play and not in a man made playground. I have not seen any kids anymore who would climb trees for instance or can name at least 3 species of living things around them but they know the latest technological gadgets. Isn’t that sad?

I grew up in Richmond B.C. which is a suburb just south of Vancouver. It was flat delta land with ditches and farms. We kids played around the ditches a lot. We were attracted to these little wild places by the croaking frogs and humming dragon flies.
We used to walk over to a fence and look through at the cows. The cows would stand in a line on the other side of the fence, chewing their cud and looking back at us.

I met David Suzuki once in my university years. He is great! Lately he does commercials too on TV, for instance with a cauling gun saying how much energy and money you could save by a properly sealed window seal. I read some of his short essays to my kids. Yes, it worked, I checked out her paintings and I really liked the way how she made connections with all living things in her paintings. Yes, we discussed with my kids of living and non-living things and made conclusions that everything is made of plants. I brought to school a brown bag filled with all kinds of food items, including chocolate. They were amazed to find out that even chocolate and the brown paper bag was made from plants. Yes, we get caterpillars and each kid is raising his/her own. They are fascinated to see how much they grow in such a short time. Once one of my kids shouted that his caterpillar was dead when in fact it was just sleeping. The other kid was so happy to see her caterpillar summersaulting and she laughed all the way through it. They discovered how similar that little caterpillar is to a human baby, they do the same: sleeping, eating, exercising etc. When they are chrysalis, we tape the little lid to a caterpillar nursery. It is so funny to see 20 some little chrysalis hanging from a huge butterfly nursery. Then when they hatch we take them to our school garden and open the lid, and say goodbye to them. We made a butterfly garden in our school yard. These kids are urban planters, they live in skyscrapers in a busy city, no private gardens. Yet, they love gardening and getting muddy and dirty. Dragonfly or frog, we are not that lucky.

Jim, her paintings and drawings are really beautiful. I like it in her paintings that she connects people with nature and animals. Today I showed a video to my students called “Plants or Animals” which was very interesting because it told the kids plants and animals can sustain life even if there was not one human left on earth but humans need either or both in order to survive…..powerful lesson just before Earth Day.

Actually I was thinking of you when I saw his work because you are a little bit like him, but you take pictures instead of drawing. I wonder if you’d made contact with him, I am sure he would not dismiss you. Bev Doolittle, never heard of but I am going to google her now. Thanks for the info.

Yes, I have been aware of Bateman’s art for many years. After Bateman became successful, other similar artists emerged. My favorite is Bev Doolittle. She took Bateman’s ultra realism and gave it a twist by adding surrealistic hidden images.

Jim, I went to Robert Bateman’s lecture and I have to tell you, I’ve never enjoyed a lecture this much since university! My jaw dropped the minute he started talking and never closed throughout. The sad part was that the audience was between the ages of 75 and 90, I really missed younger and young generations when he was talking about nothing but! What a remarkable man he is and his paintings of wildlife and birds are amazing! I wished more younger generation was there to hear him!

Hey Jim, how have you been? Have you heard of Robert Bateman the naturalist, spokesperson, painter? He lives in Salt Spring Island, BC and he is coming for the second time to Toronto to lecture about the fragile natural ecosystems. He is a committed preservationist of the natural habitats of wildlife. I can’t wait to attend.

Hey Jim, how have you been? Today one of my students researched about the tarsiers because she was reading a book about the Phillippines and she saw a picture of that animal and she wanted to know all about that cute animal.

Don’t worry about the spelling Jim. I like what you do. Soon we won’t be able to see not even what little left of our untouched nature. I am in a research group with environmentalists to work on implementing environmental issues to our science curriculum. With two colleagues of mine we are trying to find out the best way to use without abusing land in farms; what goes in, what comes out, what stays, trying to advocate against those medically altered produces etc, using more of what nature intended for us to use. Let me know when your work is done.

Yes, they do run off. Eco tourism doesn’t make any sense, I know. They put everything under the “eco” umbrella. I will take a look at your pictures. I liked the one that talked about a lawn that grew all sorts of wild flowers to attract all kinds of wild animals. Take care.

I teach question marks with big erasers.:-) That is how I describe my students. They are only in Grade 2 but their eyes are wide open and mouths drops every time I read them stories and non-fiction books about nature and animals. They are eager to know everything, they have gazillion questions a day and they want to write everything perfectly, hence why they erase everything they think look “bad” to them. I am a leader in our ecology committee at school, we are a certified Eco-school, I am the gardener of the school (we have 9) and I run the garden club and Earth-Rangers club. I am currently working on a university science project to develop workable curriculum for teachers to implement ecology, etc. from lower grades to higher grades, in another word: to teach children to love nature, move them away from TV and computers, think how can they improve their precious earth and its natural resources etc. So, when I see pictures you posted in your profile, and when I meet people with same or more enthusiasm I have, I feel very happy. I love everything original, not tempered, spoiled or artificial, and I am a preservist of anything ancient. My true profession is palaeography, and preserving and protecting relics from amateurs and from scavangers but especially from illegal commerce. :-)

Jim, your life is full and very interesting. You have so much to offer to our world and you must feel fulfilled by giving your talent as a gift to those who can actually hear you. I love David Suzuki, I teach so much of his wisdom, as the wisdom and love of nature of our Native People, to my students. I can understand your way of wanting to be away from the pollution and crowd. Water and forest are my two life elements I can’t live without. No, what you just told me are all connected. It would be interesting to read a book you wrote about your views of life. Keep in touch dear friend!

Vancouver it is. I’ve heard British Columbia is beautiful. I liked your bad logging photo and agree with what you wrote under the picture. Have you visited the “Rain Forest” there? I love trees, and nature itself too. I once donated 60 trees to a charity to plant them in Northern Africa. I read in your profile you are lecturing, writing and so forth. Can you tell me what are you lecturing? Is it about trees and nature? If that’s the case, you have a supporter.

I don’t know if Flickr can do it or not, I didn’t see the code there.
The code you need is the HTML code, and Photobucket gives it to you right under the picture along with the direct link to the photo, the URL, and the IMG code.
Copy the HTML code, and paste it in your “Edit Profile Blurb section.
To get there, go to Account Admin/profile
It’ll be the large box you can type in, right at the top=left of the page.
