• (1 vote) How sad it is when one loses what motivates them.
  

  You need to imagine the vision of yourself as a model student. You already know why you want to be a model student. Right now you feel conflicted, because you are used to the idea of yourself as a laidback coasting type but it doesn’t fit with what would make you proud. It takes a theory to beat a theory; the way to drop that self-image, and the habits that go with it, is to replace it with the idea (fantasy of the immediate future) of yourself working real hard and doing really well.
  
  Yes, I think you are cheating yourself out of life if you concentrate only on escapism. Although you do not make a point of it, you are someone with a dream of helping other people and having that is something special and important. Don’t give up on your dream.
  
  Coasting is often the result of focusing on the requirements that are needed to pass the course. Ignore these, as they’re just a distraction: you are already smart enough to realize that more is needed in order to be able to be a decent nurse. It’s evident that you don’t at heart give a stuff about passing the course, which is why this no longer motivates you to do _anything_. But there are things you do care about - so you have to be brave enough to focus on them instead.

  Let’s face it, unless he somehow becomes aware there’s no way you can get anywhere. Best thing is for your friends to arrange for him to find out indirectly. Then it’ll be up to him to do something about it or not.

  You’re having trouble because of his mixed signals but ahem if someone said to me they were going out on the pull, I wouldn’t exactly interpret that as a signal that they were in love with me.
  
  You should tell him it straight and honestly. If he does not then respect your feelings and honestly tell you what he thinks, well you don’t even need friends like that. There is a good chance though that he will either say actually he feels the same, and then you can take it from there, or that no he definitely doesn’t feel the same, and either way you then don’t have to be confused.
  
  Openness is the only thing that is going to get you anywhere. Be brave.
