• Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle a 3 year old who has been diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder?
  

  I hadn’t really thought about any food or other allergies. when my dad went for allergy testing they gave him a 4 page list of things he was allergic to, they said it would have been easier to give him the sheet of things he wasn’t allergic to. i don’t know if allergies are genetic or not but my sister and i both have allergies and so does my huband. maybe her getting tested for allergies should be a place to start. i am not so worried about what, if anything more, that she is diagnosed with as much as we can handle it the best way possible. to be honest right now i am scared to death because she goes tomorrow for her eeg, and then thursday we leave for kansas where we will be for a week before i can find anything out. i just want everybody to pray that my daughter is going to get the best care and will not have to go through tons of testing to find out what this is.

  Thank you very much. most people that i have talked to do say that the only thing wrong with my daughter is that she is spoiled. i am lucky in saying that my family has been very supportive and has been there to help us in every way possible. our struggles are daily, but we do have appointments now scheduled for therapy and as i mentioned earlier, they are doing further testings. i really do appreciate your support and your advise. thank you.

  I spent 4 days in the ridge, a mental health clinic, last spring for exactly the same reason. what i learned there was to start small, by looking for something good in my life each morning, and work your way up to telling yourself every morning that you matter. i don’t know if you are religous or not, but i firmly believe that each of us has a purpose here and sometimes we have to work to figure it out. i also keep a journal, i don’t write in it everyday but when i start feeling down or upset i start wrighting and usually i work it by the time i get through writing. just hang in there and each night before you go to bed, say a little word of thanks that you made it another day.

  I think it is okay to miss someone who you haven’t met or a another family member that you don’t remember. my dad’s dad, my grandfather passed away when i was just barely two years old and sometimes i miss him so much even though i don’t really remember him. what i do is keep the thought that he loved me, and from what they have told me, loved me dearly as close to my heart as i can. and if your mother left you a locket and a picture, wherever she may be today, i am sure that she thinks of you often and that she knew she was giving you a better life.

  I agree with the anonymous that praising and fun is a good way to go, although i do belive that as chev.jame said, at times the old way was better. as toadstone goes,my daughter is by no means spoiled to the point where that is the reason for her actions. my daughter can be ‘reprimanded’ for something and will look me in the eye and do the exact same thing again, while i am watching her. i have tried every possible thing as punishment and nothing has helped. i do not give my child everything that she wants, as a matter of fact i struggle to give my daughter any thing extra than what she needs. that is why i have asked for any help or advice that i can get. in a few days my daughter goes to have an eeg done to make sure that her actions are not an indication of something worse. i pray each day for a change in the way things are going. i pray each day to be the best mother i can be and to have the strength to survive one more day with my sanity. i don’t mean to rattle on i just want to make it known that if i believed that my daughter was just spoiled, i would not be asking for help.
