I don’t see much harm in accepting a birthday card. It is, after all, a case of your mother coming to see you, vis a vis your seeking any of them out. I am sure that your mother has carried a load of guilt, but unfortunately she “sacrificed” you for her own security. Whatever you do, do not feel guilty for distancing yourself from your parents. You were failed in a major way. Live your life without guilt. You cannot go to their home and pretend everything is all right, because it isn’t–and it never will be until both of your parents come clean. They owe you that, as a bare minimum.
