  hello,
  just wanted to weigh in on this one since i have some experience with this chemical. to the guy who said your hand would fizz and disintegrate, that’s true, but only if it were concentrated or of high concentration. losprophet, it’s been known for a long time that hydrogen peroxide can kill tissue, that’s why they dilute it to 2-3% concentration. with the dilution, the chemical can cause bacteria to break apart due to its chemical composition, and it denatures proteins. you’re right that it doesn’t magically differentiate between “good” and “bad” organisms, but the whole point is that it kills what’s in that area (foreign invasive organisms and healing mechanisms alike), and the “good” organisms flood back from your immune system to close the wound. your tissue is not dying, and the people teaching your first aid course should not make such claims.

• (2 votes) i cannot get over my fear of being in a swimming pool, i love swimming at the beach or lake.
  

  i think swimming in lakes and oceans is much more enjoyable than swimming in an icky pool. i don’t think you have a problem. however, if your discomfort/fear is interfering with some kind of desire to be in a pool, maybe a good way for you to handle this would be to take a “pool boy” job for the summer. not the kind where you clean them necessarily, but one where you deal with the water chemistry. i think that might help you make a little cash while learning about the effectiveness of chlorine in pool safety. could be fun.

  you have a good family. that’s why you don’t understand how this can happen. i’m also not a full blood relative to those 4 members. i’m a half sibling to 2 of them, and the other 2 have a complicated relationship to me which makes them more of a surrogate aunt and uncle. i agree with you. i have to stop thinking about how much this hurts and just focus on me because i’m getting nowhere being upset about them. thanks for your good advice and allowing me to vent.

  i like the underlying disorder theory, i do. but i don’t worry about succeeding, i’m going to do what i want to do as i always have. this is about family, betrayal and secrecy. things that make people extremely uncomfortable.

  i know that this sounds entitled. but it’s not about the money. i have to care, because this is my older sister and brother, and my aunt and uncle. wouldn’t you feel betrayed if people close to you were secretly trying to gang up on your parents to stop you from accomplishing your dreams for no good reason?

  believe me, i have thoughts about “the fortitude that gets you through this will make you the best doctor” etc, but i have just had a difficult argument with my parents, who as you say support me, for violating my privacy which i told them not to do. they’re on my side, as you say, so i feel awful getting on their case when it’s everyone else i should be chiding. they will not be dissuaded, but i hate that someone is trying to make them. in any case, naturally i will live my life on my terms, but this is the kind of thing that tears families apart.
