  Gold coin: The reason that I posted that answer if your TV doesn’t have a Svid or VGA connector then the performance is going to be really bad or will not work at all. You can buy used TV’S at pawn shops or rummage sales with the adapter installed then it will work for what your going to use it for. Hope this helps :-)[/quote]
  
  Good idea. Doing that way would mean I wouldn’t need an adapter or the 3.5mm to RCA cable (assuming I can get both audio and video to the set). Taking into account what you said about signal quality, I think the best course of action would be to go with what you said and look for a used TV with the adapter. Thanks, The Clue!

I suggest that you buy yourself a new digital TV then you can use it as a monitor and view movies and Internet pages just like your on a monitor.   That’s a good point, but I’m currently setting up a MAME arcade machine and I want to use a TV as a display. I know I can buy actual arcade monitors for this, but since I have the TV just sitting around I thought I could save a few bucks and use it instead.

  I’m pretty sure everyone has gone through the same sort of situation with their parents in the past. As others have mentioned in this topic, you need to communicate your problem to your parents. According to your story, it seems as though your father would be the best person to start with.
