  I think introducing yourself is the best place to start. If you give her your name isn’t it likely she will give you hers? Then if you find something that you can complement her on you have a conversation started…you can keep her talking for ever (and most girls do like to talk…or be listened to). It will take only a bit of effort from you. The trick is to remember that there is a who, what, when, where, why and/or how question in response to every thing she tells you. For example “Hey, I like your shoes”
  girl “thanks”
  you “where did you get them”, “I like that store, did you get that skirt there too?”, “Oh, the skirt was a b-day gift from your mom? Are you and your mom close?” “What about your dad”.
  
  Lame examples I know but it lets her know that you are interested and lets you guide the conversation. You can use it on any one and once mastered it works wonders. Hope that helps.

  Thank you for the replys so far. For the record I am NOT contemplating suicide and I think I have already created that monster in me. Now I want to control or eliminate it. As for “seeing the town”…it is in fact a “Town”. Population very small. There is nothing to see and no place to gather. I am all for taking a job until the “right” one comes along but places aren’t looking for some one in the short term. No, I don’t tell them what I’m doing but I’m either over qualified or so off course with my training that I think it must cause them to question. I also can’t let myself take a job that wants to invest the time and special training required only to have me leave them in two months. I am a good, decent, very compassionate person. I’m just lonely and questioning things.
