Disabled former choir director, opera singer and single parent with incurable autoimmune nueromuscular disease. That about does it. Actually, no one can be defined in a blurb but I will do my best. I have a rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis which has been treatment resistant. My illness began in 2000 and took a year to diagnose. I was determined to continued my job, which I loved-teaching junior high students. As the disease made me so weak that I needed a wheelchair and no longer could breath on my own, I finally took disability retirement in 05 only to find out that I would have to live on $570 a month. And, even though I had put into social security for many years before I taught, I was ineligible for SSDI because I hadn’t paid into it in the past 5 years. I was declined even though I had all but 4 quarters because of a federal law that makes all teachers like me ineligible. Of course all of this is going on while I am raising two girls totally on my own. My girls put themselves through college. I am now living with my mother, daughter and her son (she is a single parent). My oldest daughter is just starting her career. We are hoping that one day we can get a place where the three of us can live together. My youngest just graduated and found a job cross country. I miss her terribly.
