2009-01-06 09:21:17 on Hello all, I’m looking for anyone’s insight.
I use the following categories to help me budget my cash. I take each bill and break it down into weekly costs, and round it up to the closest 10, so that I’m never short of the amount, then I pay the weekly amounts into a bank account I have solely for paying bill, which helps me not spend the money! I have 2 accounts in total. One for the bills, and the other for food, entertainment, clothes, etc. I also have a saving account. Any money that’s left over after I’ve budgeted for the week is paid into that account, so if I ever need cash, I have a 3rd reserve without actually dipping into the money saved for bills.
- rent
- water bills
- gas bills
- electricity bills
- council tax
- mobile phone (cell phone) costs
- landline phone and internet
- television license/cable costs
- travel costs (insurance for car, petrol, mot, road tax, etc etc if you have a car, or the cost of bus passes or rail tickets)
- basic food costs (it’s my approximate weekly cost of food shopping)
- entertainment budget (I allow myself the cost of 1 night out a week at approx £40 a night and the cost of getting a takeaway once every 2 weeks)
- clothes budget
I think that’s everything. If I can think of anything else I budget for, I’ll add it on!
Good luck with moving, your father is right to make you think about a budget, if you can learn how to spend your money well now, then when you’re earning, you can live comfortably off a budget, and still save a lot of money. You’ll thank him when you can afford 2 holidays a year because he made you budget!

2008-12-10 09:45:52 on Really bad throat!
salt water gargling will relieve any infection. If you can’t handle that, try gargling with dissolvable asprin in water.
Drink hot water with a wedge of fresh lemon or lime, the citrus will provide vitamin C, and also it has soothing and medicinical effects. Fruit juice will be good for you too, but dilute it in hot water, as the cold and too much sugar in the juice will irritate your throat. Oh and avoid milk at all costs, if you have an infection, milk encourages the mucus and you’ll end up with catarrh
hope you get better soon!
2008-12-10 09:26:39 on Do you agree w/ me or “Commander Ikari”?
I voted Ikari, not because I think that’s his real name, but because my terrapin’s name is Gretchen. If Ikari did change his name to Gretchen, I’d freak as I’d think my terrapin has learnt to use my laptop when I’m out! eeeek!
2008-12-10 09:18:56 on The funniest thing happened to me yesterday…
I am so glad I finally got my internet connection back! This was well worth it lmao! I can’t believe you actually signed autographs for them! You should have said you’ve spent so long kissing girls and acting badly that you don’t know how to write!
Thanks for the giggles xxx

ohhh xeno, your new avatar is very pretty!
sorry was that too girly? I’ll man it up for you… ugh, great pic dude.
word.
2008-11-05 08:29:19 on I can’t swear , the words just don’t come out ,is this a problem ?
Now now, swearing can sometimes be appropriate and proper.
Many times I will swear to set the rhythm and tone of a joke, a rant, or a statement.
Other times I will swear (and we actually call it cursing mainly here, and you won’t hear anyone say “cussing”) just to convey emotion, and also because many times the f word the only way to describe sex in conversations of a certain tone.
What I’m saying is that there is a time and place for swearing, and you have to know to tell the difference. However, I don’t think being unable to swear is a problem as much as a novelty. I think being unable to stop swearing is a worse issue.
Also very true, the context of the conversation is more important than the actual words used. However, I still think swearing in everyday conversation can be tiresome, and what could be considered quite striking words are dulled through their overuse!
I agree with what you say though, and stopping yourself swearing is far harder! Habits are hard to break!
2008-11-05 08:27:06 on I am a student at hoke county high school and for my senior project I plan to write about starting my own landscaping business.
Costs:
1. Do plenty of research, interview local landscaping businesses, ask them for help in your project - how they started, what inspired them, how much it cost..
2. Research costs of equipment
3. Research tax payments for a self-started business, and also salary requirements (ie minimum wage for expected staff, and of course yourself)
4. go to all the banks, make appointments with the business advisors, ask them for any financial forecasts they could provide. Take all your research with you, it will show you’re serious and aren’t wasting their time - they will take you more seriously then
Competition
1. Check the current market - all companies offering a similar service in your area. Don’t forget to take into account people who would do it themselves
2. Make a questionnaire, and go out and ask a sample of 100 people what they’d do when it comes to landscaping. This is a great resource, you can also use this to gather how much people are willing to spend, the area of their land, and perhaps a checklist question of what services they’d require and the frequency of it (ie they want a water fountain installed and then upkeep monthly)
Problems:
Again, contact existing companies. Interview them, make sure you prepare so you can get the most out of your time, and video/sound record it, so you have a transcript for your project.
It may be a good idea to get in touch with a compnay that hasn’t succeeded in business (closed/ been bought out). It’s good to research why it won’t succeed as well as why it can. You can then take the negatives into consideration when you write your conclusion.
All the best of luck with your project!
