  Wow, okay, first off, I have to say this is the first time I’ve posted on this site and I’m amazed by the amount of quick responses. Thank you so much. You guys are so honest and helpful. You really are making me think more than if I had talked to one of my friends because they’re used to hearing what I have to say and usually have automatice responses to my dilemmas.
  Okay so a few of you mentioned that I could live a “normal” life now and still be spiritual and get all the college stuff out of the way and then go on to live a quiet spiritual life after I’ve got a job to sustain me. I’ve thought about this and this does make sense. The only problem is, well, I have trouble keeping a consistent way of living so that I can achieve what I need to achieve while still doing daily meditation, eating consciously, and being aware of how I interact with others. I get caught up in the daily difficulties way too much sometimes and forget my longterm goals. The reason for this is because I was depressed for many years in the past. And have only come out of it within the past couple of years. When I was depressed I had a hard time being in control of my actions and feelings and would days or weeks dwelling on one bad thing. I’m stilling dealing with this. As everyone is though. It gets better and better everyday though. What got me out of my depression was meditation I started meditating everyday and I became aware that my feeling down and out about myself and my surroundings was doing nothing for myself or others.
  So I guess maybe I’m at this point where I’m on the verge of understanding myself and what I need to do in this life. But, I think I need to interact with others more and listen to their point of views in order to go farther on that path. We’re all in this together, right? The more people I meet the more I understand about this universe and the more I come to understand that I know close to nothing about this universe.
  Neutra you asked which is more important becoming a nun or doing what my parents want and well what is most important to me is helping others and the universe as much as I can in this lifetime. And whichever path can let me do that is the one I want. And as I think about it I think I need to stay in society among people who are living the worldly life. My parents are what make me believe this. The more I contemplate my choices the more I realize I could not abandon my parents. They are divorced and both live alone. My mom works two jobs, one full time and one part time. Both are minimum wage jobs. I think it would be terribly wrong of me to go off and become a nun and not be able to help her out in the future. College will allow me to get a good job and help her out with the bills and whatever she may need. She is already getting bad knees at 50 and is a smoker with not that good of health. She needs me. My dad needs me at least to be able to come and visit once in awhile because he is by himself and gets quite lonely.
  So I guess I should stay in college and pursue something that is nearest my belief in the helping of others and being aware of every action and moment. Maybe I could one day become a meditation teacher after I have gained more experience in meditation. Maybe. All is in flux. Everything is impermanant.

  As for Uncledwyane, I have considered this possiblity. I used to consider myself a buddhist, but now I only consider myself a buddhist in so much that I believe in what the buddha did not in that I believe every “buddhist” thing I read. I consider reality my religion now. I search for what is now, what is real, what is the truth.

  and you know it might not be that all the jerks get the girls. it might just be that those guys and the girls that are attracted them are the people who are loud and push their way through life more so they are noticed more. whereas the nice guys and girls who get together are a little more lowkey. ;-)

  okay it’s not that i’m just living at home that’s bothering me. it’s the fact that i live 30 minutes away from campus and i have to commute two hours a day in order to get back and forth from school. so i want to move to minneapolis where the campus is in order to be able to be a part of campus life more and be among people my age. the money i spend on gas right now could be used for an apartment as i could bike back and forth from campus or take the bus rather than drive. so it would all even out. it’s just i need resources for finding this apartment and these roommates. thanks for all the encouragement though. i do truly appreciate all these kind words.
  another reason for wanting to move out is for the longest time i’ve been a closed off person focusing on my studies and ignoring building a social life and i am craving this. i want to build more friendships and i’ve also met a guy on campus so it’s a bit hard to see him because of my living situation. This may sound a little like I’m abandoning my studies a bit, but it’s not that at all. I’m getting A’s in my classes and I believe this is an important step in the growth of myself.
  my dad’s great for the most part, but he’s a bit controlling. i won’t elaborate much on this for it’s a long story between the two of us. we’ve gone through many hard times together. we support eachother but we disagree on things many a time.
  life is good. this is not me trying to escape something. this is me trying to expand my world and my confidence in my ability to do something on my own.
