  Hi there. If it is of any help I went through a very similar time when I went to college (now about 20 years ago). When I arrived I was really nervous and everyone else seemed really confident. I never knew what to say to people, and felt really awkward and desperate if I tried to strike up a conversation with them. For about 4 months I was really alone, homesick and felt awful.
  
  I remember feeling really low and speaking to my mum on the phone, and she suggested I let some of the other students know how I was feeling. I went into our communal kitchen in the halls we were living in, and chatted nervously for a while with them. When someone asked me if I was ok, I replied honestly and just said that I was feeling quite alone and didn’t find making friends too easy. They were really lovely and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Strangely, this group didn’t end up being my closest friends, but they gave me the confidence to be able to talk honestly to new people and realise that many people will treat you well if they realise you are genuinely having a difficult time.
  
  
  
  Since then, I haven’t really looked back. Now at nearly 40, I sometimes still find it difficult to chat to new people and fit in, but I keep reminding myself that this is not too difficult to overcome, and once you have built a little familiarity with the people around you then things become a hell of a lot easier.
  
  Moving away from home is both incredibly exciting and utterly terrifying. It also takes a while to adjust to standing on your own two feet. Stay strong, let yourself be you, and never be afraid of asking for help - the people who are worth knowing will be the ones who reach out to you.

  Don’t let him see how annoyed you are. This is probably why he does it. Just walk away, or make a formal complaint.

  Talk to your therapist. What’s the point in going for sessions unless you are open and honest with him or her? Depression is a horrible illness, but it can be treated. Get out and do someting active - go somewhere beautiful for a walk/cycle - exercise is proven to lift the mood. I would recommend dropping the herb, at the very least for a month or 2. It sounds like there’s so much fog in your head that you can’t see beyond it. Find as many clear spaces as you can. Your therapist can help you find this. Once the fog clears, you may well find yourself looking back on this period of your life and marvelling at how well you did to get through it. Good luck.

  Would totally agree with this. Your confusion probably comes from the fact that most people are making it all up as they go along - even religous leaders. They tell us all sorts of things that they claim to be true and the ‘word of God’, but often these things can be used to control people or make them ’stay quiet’through keeping them afraid of hell or God’s wrath. Sometimes, when people disagree with them, these leaders say that the devil is at work (again to try to control people through fear).
  
  Be brave and trust in your own heart what you know to be right for you. I believe that if there is a God, then he/she doesn’t want people to suffer in fear all of their lives. He/she would surely want us to live our lives to their fullest with love and joy?
  So long as you are doing your best not to damage or harm anyone else, then I personally think that you have nothing to worry about and everything to be happy about.
  You are questioning your beliefs and this is a very good thing - it will make you much more understanding and compassionate to other religions, faiths, people and ways of life. Compassion, wisdom and kindness are all things that will help you to find peace.

  If you see the world’s problems as easily solvable, what have you done to help to solve them? If the answer is “nothing” then I think you lose the right to blame and point the finger.
  
  What we see outside is so often inside ourselves. I imagine the sickness you see outside in the world is very similar to how you feel inside. Putting the blame out on everyone else and expecting them to rally around and help you may be essential for you at the moment, but maybe this is why you feel that people pull away from you? Maybe they get bored because they feel they cannot have a real relationship with you? I mean a real reciprocal relationship where BOTH parties gain something from interacting with each other. This is neither selfishness or greed, just plain common sense.
  
  Ask yourself honestly what good you have attempted to do to help others. I know this can be a really difficult question to answer honestly. No one likes to see their negative traits. The ego tries to be in control by being right all the time, but sometimes the ego can do a lot of damage too - internally and externally.
  If you can answer this question honestly and don’t like what you see, change it. If you spot the truth about the way you have been acting and start to beat yourself up about it then you are letting your ego regain control again. The truth is not binding, it is liberating. Try to look at yourself honestly and lightly. All the thoughts and feelings we have are not unique to us alone. No-one is inherently good or bad. We’re all just doing what we can to survive. It just makes more sense if we do it together, surely?

  Many wags, Zoe. Will try my best, but it will be difficult! Normally when I see owner I get so excited I wee on things. Will have to practice being still and not jumping up or barking. Maybe I could watch how OWNER does it - he does it for a long, long time sometimes, and makes growly noises. Will try out the growly noises first as that seems a bit easier.

  Please help! I don’t know who else to bark to. OWNER doesn’t understand. You say humans are clever, but mine is stupid.
  
  There’s this ***** that I’ve fallen for and I can’t get her off my nose. It started as love at first SNIFF, and since then I’ve been going CRAZY. Whenever I am on WALKIES I try to smell out where she is, but have never sniffed her again.
  
  Have tried distracting myself with belly rubs, peeing on things, chewing everything I can find in HOME and BARKING all night in case she is nearby and can hear me, but OWNER uses ANGRY VOICE and sends me to BASKET.

  There are loads of different ways to be creative and I think it shows an immature mind when someone tells other people they are not. Some people don’t think about what they are saying before they blurt it out. I knew a woman who was like this and came to the conclusion that she was too self absorbed and immature to recognise that most people have creativity in them - it just wasn’t the same as hers. Thankfully, we don’t keep in touch any more…
