  Perhaps there are more specific benifits you don’t know about? There are many means-tested benefits in the UK to help support families, you should try reserching them and find out if you are able to apply for them.

  You are recognising that tis is not healthy, which means that it isn’t programmed into your brain. Although you keep acting in this way, you can see logic, and therefore you know its not right. The only reason you keep it up is because your trying to focus on something.
  
  I had depression myself, and that was the advice people gave. “Focus on something, distract your mind from how you are feeling”. You are doing that. But at the same time you know its not the right thing to focus your mind on. However, you don’t know what else to do, or you have been doing it too long to change, so you keep acting in this way.
  
  Its not programmed into your mind, but the more you convince yourself that it is, the more you will believe it. What i think you need to do is find a differnet focus. I know that sounds utterly useless, and as i know you a little, and i know that between school and friendships and home life, there isn’t much time for a new activity.
  
  I believe that writing is a huge help, if you can sit by a pc and write about how you feel, it helps to let emotions out,and work them out of your system in a safer way than self harm. When i write about something, i write about how i feel about it, and how it affects me, and why i think it affects me like that. This also helps me identify the Root of the problem, and even if turned out to be something way back in the past, i feel like better for understand what provoked the feeling. also, it takes up time, and causes a distraction from self harm, and excessive exercise.
  
  I understand the fear you have of becoming overweight like other people in your family, and in no way am I critising your desire to stay healthy. There are way to measure your Body Mass Index on the internet, you can use that to work out what a healthy weight is, and base your exercise schemes on that. that way you know whats healthy and not healthy.
  
  As you are still at school, and exam time is only a few motnhs away you need to keep yourself healthy, or it will affect your grades. i lost two years because of my sleep pattern, and droping out of school when you know that you could have done the work if you were feeling “normal” is a huge disappointment. I strongly feel that if you let the exercising take over your life you will regret it, and balme yourself, making you feel worse.
  
  Sorry, i’m kind of going all over the place here, i was trying to talk about distractions…
  
  Schoolwork I think is a good distraction. Make checklists of what you need to do, and include good things on this list, or things that don’t require thought effort. Sometimes when i finich one piece of work, i might take a shower or have lunch, just to give myself a break from working. Also, as you can cross off pieces of completed coursework, you feel good. Because your making progress. Don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. You CHOSE those classes, you CHOSE to attend school. A lot of people feel like thet have to get a levels and higher grades, but in truth its completly your descision. Where you are now, you are there because you want to be and no other reason. Remind yourself that these subjects anre your subjects, and remind yourself what you enjoy about learning them, so that can keep your mind off the bad things.
  
  Nothing is forcing you to exercise and act in that manner, you can make yourself have control. If you genuinely feel, oh no, I’m doing too much, take a break. Watch a movie, talk with your friends, listen to some music. Go out somewhere and look at it in different eyes.
  
  Ok, to be completly honest I’ve been writing so long I’ve lost thread of what i’m talking about.
  Overall what i want to tell you is that things change. They really do. 6 months ago i would have (and did) have breakdowns if i was out somewhere without my pins (instruments of self harm) but not that long ago, i thought, enough, and stopped carrying them. I feel much better, because when i go out, i’m not always thinking “what if i need them”, because i know that most of the time i won’t . There was a point on my life where i wouldn’t have believed that was possible.
  
  You have to look forward to the rest of your life, and know that when you get out of school, and your parents house life will be your completly and you can do wahtever you want. The time in between is boring and frustrating, but you just have to get through it and know that the future is a great place to be.

  I used to know someone who would say that but never go through with it. They were just looking for someone to say they still wanted them around, its related to insecurities I think. I agree with old Guy, something is bothering him, and ask him if theres anything else, but if he doesn’t want to tell you leave it for now. He will come back to you.
