  thanks for your advice seah1. I sincerely appreciate it. I will try to find out about the requirements for a student visa. At my age, 48, it seems improbable but you never know. Besides, I don’t know if they will accept me as an ESL student, since I already speak English fluently. Anything is possible, though.

  My previous reply didn’t get posted. Yes, the rejection letter clearly stated “We do not work with Guatemalan authors.” They didn’t even bother to read the material. Just the fact that I live here was enough to disqualify me.
  
  Yes, I have tried electronically but here in Guatemala that can’t be done because they don’t have the technology yet to charge with credit card. Only certain businesses can do it. We live in a very beautiful but very underdeveloped nation.

  I have thought many times about hurting my family, yet I love my family more than anything in this world. Bad thoughts always come. ALWAYS. You are not evil or anything like that. What happens is that we watch a whole lot of violence on TV, movies, videogames, newspapers, the street, etc., and our brains grow accustomed to violence. But it can be dominated. Ashley is right. Read good books, watch nice videos, play funny videogames, and those images will slowly replace the ones you have. You are normal. But you do need to take steps to dominate those thoughts. You can do it.

  haven’t any of you ever seen the many documentaries made on the subject which show how the farmers made those rings and figures themselves? You are all very smart people. Look them up. They exist. All the circles and stuff are fake! Come on!

  I’m not sure there is anything you can do. When we are in a harmful relationship such as the one your friend is in, we tend to be pretty blind about who is trying to help us and who is not. Any interference from you may be taken as just that: interference, even if it is well intentioned.
  I imagine you have tried talking to him. That usually doesn’t work, unless your friend is open minded enough to see beyond whatever he feels for this girl. It helps sometimes to show him examples of other similar situations and how they have turned out. I am, though many don’t believe in this, going to pray for you and your friend.
  You must also think of your own family. You don’t want them hurt because of this. They must come first above everything. God bless you.
