• Advice about dating a new police officer?
  

  I did hear from him last night. He ended up having a horrible weekend, which I kind of suspected. He told me last night that the fatal accident he had to work ended up being a mother and infant, (which was weird because I had a feeling thats what it was for some reason). He told me it was his first infant fatality, and it was really hard on him. He didn’t feel like talking to anyone Friday.
  Saturday he was supposed to go to the wedding, but ended up not going.(Which he mentioned he might not go). Instead, he decided to hang with his other life long friends who were also having a bachelor party for a wedding taking place the following week. (yes he is in that wedding, its next Sunday). Long story short, they ended up in 2 cars in another small town, one driver flipped the jeep they were in (not my guy, the other guys). His friend he grew up with was thrown about 40 ft, crushing his head and back. He said he tried to hold his head steady for almost 3 hours until the air evac came at 1:30am. He died on the way to the hospital…
  SO, he has had a VERY rough few days.
  He apologized quite a few times for not calling, but that he “just hasn’t been much of anything for the last few days”…
  He told me that he was sorry, and said that he has just had a lot to deal with, and it was all just a lot.
  We ended up talking for awhile, and I did tell him that I was so sorry, and that even though it was a horrible situation, I did still worry because I hadn’t heard from him. And that even if he could just txt me something short, saying he was having a hard time or something, I would appreciate the effort. He agreed, and did say that he was trying to make an effort, and would continue to do so. (Which I think he is too, up until Thurs).
  He did ask if I had plans for Thurs night as he would like to see me, and he knows I don’t have my daughter that night…then today sent me a txt saying he was working a double until midnight and would call when he can…
  I hope this is all normal…

  Unfortunately, moving is not an option, as I have a daughter and an ex husband who see each other every day. AND, we are not at that point in our relationship just yet…I can’t see moving across the valley for something that isn’t quite solid just yet.

  Man it is so nice to hear this from someone “outside” the situation. I really appreciate it. You know, you’re close friends actually SEE you upset or hurt, and the immediate reaction is usually that of, “dump him, this is bulls***!” Even if its something that can be fixed, but I know its because they care. But it is nice to hear advice from someone who can be more rational about it, because its based on facts and not emotion. I guess I will hold off on contacting him and ending it, and see what happens…

  Funny you should say that, because we did stop talking in about April, and then suddenly in July, I got an email from him… I text him a few days later, and he apologizes for how he treated me in the past, being a jerk, unresponsive and that I didnt deserve that… He started being more in contact with me, but not enough. We saw each other a few times, until I finally told him, i can’t have it just on his schedule, and as much as I wish things were different, we can only be friends. He promised he would make more of an effort, to which I told him he didnt have to, because he is only going to be my friend…but he still insisted he will try.
  Since then he called, texted, and called some more… That was 4 weeks ago. Last week we decided to try. Today, I am sad already…Maybe I need to tell him just friends and stick to it for a longer period of time…?
