  Rest assured that I have a copy of the book of Mormon, the Perl of Great Price and more here at home; several actually. My solace comes in scripture comes from the Bible over and over again. They say we are not born with a manual or that there is no manual for raising our children, but there is. It comes from one higher than us inconceivably more intellectual. We have been blessed with many different miraculously inspired sources. And you are right in knowing that, reading the promises of the Almighty will help take away the gloom and despair. Laura

• Why are we here?
  

  Dear friend:
  We are here to live to love and to learn. There are always barriers that bar our way sometimes. But these are part of life’s lessons. A friend once told me that life is like a college. There is always another class, or situation, there is always learning, sometimes on the learning curve we don’t get the lessons meaning the first time round, so life will give us another class on the subject. Hopefully we get it and learn something valuable so we can move on to another maybe less stressful class. Why is all of this necessary? Why is this sometimes such a struggle? We humans can be so stubborn. These tough lessons help us become better people. These lessons help teach us how to help others get through the same tough lessons in their own lives. We learn compassion, our stubborn harts will realize that all that crap we went thru, lays a ground work for caring for others. We are here to touch the trees and feel what bark feels like. Smell what a rose smells like and touch its velvety petals. We are here to put our tows in the water and feel the coolness or the warmth of it. We are here to help less fortunate people understand the meaning of their lives. Hold that rose up to a paraplegic so that they can breathe in the scent of a flower that they can’t pick themselves. I don’t think there is such a thing as a bachelors in life, but as we work thru our lives, learn and experience all you can. Do good to others. Remember what you have learned and pass it on to another making their life better. These things will give you a sense of your purpose, what you can do can change a world. Laura

  Dear Ali,
  Lets figure this out together. You sure do have a point there! This does seem to be a cach 22 kind of spiral. We want to feel good. I just cant understand why it is so seemingly imposible to do. Ill do some reasearch on the net about this perdicament and see what i come up with.
  today i stayed in bed till 3pm. i wasnt asleep, but just didnt want to leave the security of my nest. Maybe security has something to do with this. Write soon, we’ll get it together, we’ll find a way to come out of this listlesness.

  So very true. I admit I’m not a very talented person; however I’m great with children. love the light in their eyes. Everything is such a wonder to them. This is one reason a volunteered for the juvenile justice center here in Washington state. Loved it; however as an advocate for the children it was my job to recommend foster care, or return the child to a previously abusive parent, a mom or dad or both. There were attorneys for all sides advocating for their clients, mom, dad, or the state of WA. And advocating whether they were on the right side or the wrong side of the domestic situation. These attorneys would zealously (it was their job) advocate for their client. Regardless of my recommendations for the best interest of the child one side would be in disagreement with me. No matter which side I had taken, there was always an opposing attorney who would go out of their way to try and devastate your credentials to discredit you opinion as the child’s only advocate, and argue to the court why my opinion was wrong. I can take that heat, but it was the personal stabs and the personal insults they used to further their case and position that was so hard to stomach. And, saw children returned to crack head moms who slit their wrists when 8 month pregnant just coming out of the psyche ward get their emergency C-sectioned child back after having been placed with a terrific foster mom for over two years, the only mom the child has ever known. A foster mom who received the infant at one day old from the hospital, after saved by an ER staff because its birth mom OD drugs and slit her wrists with the baby still in her. So unjust. The system is so broken. Swore I’d never do this again and watch helplessly as a travesty unfolds before my very eyes.
  You are right however, to follow good things. I guess I just haven’t had the support to do so. Love my husband but he seem to hold me back from so much. He’s is like a beerier between me and what I would and want to enjoy doing. I like the piano, and I would love to learn how to paint. But if I’m not going to make $ at it the husband discourages it. I want to find the place inside me that is strong enough to say “I don’t care what you think or say, I’m going to do it anyway!” It’s just the fallout from such a bold action would be miserable. The looks I get, the disapproving body language, the stomping off and throwing stuff around is unnerving. I don’t know how to explain to you how any pleasure I may gain through my bravado is dashed by this disapproving, distressing, title wave of negativity that makes my joy seem wrong or horridly selfish. Where does one go from that?
