Well, personally I’m glad you at least tried. It didn’t work the way you thought it would, but you never know till you try. But anyway, I agree with TWILIAZgeroUIT, go with whatever your heart tells you, and with whatever you really want. You know yourself and your friend a lot better than any of us ever will. You can decide what you want to happen and you can attempt to make that happen. If it doesn’t work out exactly how you want it to, then its your friends loss. If she can’t understand what you want, then maybe she’s not what you need anyway

There’s this running/xcountry idea that you can’t be the best at something, there’s always going to be someone better than you. Even if you run the fastest time ever and set a record, someone will break it in time. And even then, that’s only one person out of millions and millions. Being the ‘best’ isn’t always the point, the point is doing something you love and training to be better at it.
Also, there’s a huge difference between having talent and being good at something. Talent doesn’t mean much if you don’t apply it, and more importantly because you don’t have a natural talent for something doesn’t mean you can’t be good at it, it just takes more time to develope. But that extra effort to get better, even though it may take time, adds more of a quality to that skill because you had to work for it yourself.
