  Here’s my suggestion. You start off saying you are writing about an organization. But as a reader, I don’t relate to an organization. I will relate to a person. You need a main character and I would start your description off talking about him/her.
  
  I once heard advice that any good story can be described as: this is a story about _____________________ (insert person’s name or description), who more than anything wants _________________ but can’t get it because _____________________.
  
  Can you describe your story in those terms??

  I would get a card and say that you’d like to be closer. Do you have a picture or even a memory of a particularly good time with him that you could write about in the card? I think describing a time when he has been there for you, would perhaps be a good reminder to him of what he could have. It would also sound like you appreciate what he has done as a father, rather than focusing on what he hasn’t (which would be easy to do).

  I wouldn’t brand suicide as an act of courage or cowardice, but one of desperation and confusion. I am glad that help.com has built-in the ability to remind people that help is only a phone call away. Please, pick up the phone and dial the number if you are contemplating suicide on any level.
