Doubtful that your disc has an error. Most computers contain hardware that Windows XP doesn’t come with drivers for, simply because XP is old as the hills at this point and most hardware made before 2001 (when XP came out) has been replaced by newer stuff. You have a couple of options:
1: Windows Update. Go to http://update.microsoft.com and make sure you select “custom” updates, then when it’s done making a list of stuff you need, select “Hardware, Optional” and see if an audio driver is listed. Microsoft has added a lot of drivers for newer hardware to its database since 2001.
2: Go to the website of the manufacturer of your mainboard, or computer (the latter is only an option on pre-made machines like Dell, Gateway, etc). The site will have a place to download drivers.
3: Run this app: http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html I’ve used an older version of this app a few times and it beats going to the Device Manager in Windows and then looking up the hardware ID on the internet.
Good luck, and come back if you have any questions. - written 8 months, 4 weeks ago
